SPMT Operator

About the Role

We are seeking experienced and safety-focused SPMT Operators to join our clients heavy haulage team, operating out of Port Hedland on a 28/9 roster.

The successful candidates will be responsible for safely operating Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) to transport heavy machinery and oversized equipment from Port Hedland to mining operations. This is a hands-on role requiring a strong commitment to safety, precision and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate SPMT equipment for the transportation of heavy machinery and mining equipment.

• Conduct pre-start inspections and ensure SPMT equipment is maintained in safe operating condition.

• Transport oversized and heavy loads across mine sites, public roads and other designated areas as required.

• Follow approved lift, load and transport plans and comply with site-specific procedures.

• Work closely with supervisors, doggers, riggers, spotters and other site personnel.

• Maintain effective communication with the transport team and other stakeholders.

• Safely manoeuvre and position heavy equipment in confined and challenging environments.

• Identify and report hazards, defects and potential safety issues.

• Complete required operational documentation and daily pre-starts.

• Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and care for company equipment.

• Comply with all company, mine-site and statutory safety requirements.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Demonstrated experience operating SPMTs in heavy haulage, mining or similar environments.

• Experience transporting heavy machinery, mining equipment or other oversized loads.

• Strong understanding of load movements, exclusion zones and safe operating procedures.

• Excellent situational awareness and attention to detail.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly.

• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.

• Ability to work the required 28/9 roster and travel to mine sites as required.

• Ability to pass relevant medical, drug and alcohol screening and site inductions.

Mandatory Requirements

• Valid MSIC (Maritime Security Identification Card).

• Relevant SPMT operating experience.

• Current Australian driver's licence.

• Ability to obtain and maintain required mine-site inductions and competencies.
