About the role
This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 4, 2026
The School
Shenton College is one of Australia’s leading co-educational schools and consists of a Middle School (Years 7 & 8), Lower Senior School (Years 9 & 10) and Upper Senior School (Years 11 & 12). The College currently has approximately 2800 students and 300 staff. The College’s strength is in its commitment to develop the ‘whole child’ and to empower them to be independent and confident learners so that they can be purposeful contributors to an increasingly interdependent world.
The school’s success is built on solid foundations and on the skills of an outstanding staff. Shenton College has a proud culture of excellence. With a ‘can do’ capacity to problem solve, our staff pride themselves in delivering outstanding services to our students, parents and community.
The Role
As a Library Officer you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the library, provision of reference information and maintaining the environment and associated services of the school library to support the learning outcomes of students. You may be required to work with students either individually or in small groups to support their learning and engagement. You will also administer the library systems ensuring library records are up to date and library resources are maintained and processed so they are always accessible and available to students and staff.
Library Officers will ideally have outstanding customer service skills to provide library support to our school community, leadership team and staff. You should work in partnership with staff to create a welcoming and vibrant library environment for students. A love of books and a sound understanding of library systems, processes and stocktakes would be highly desirable. The successful applicant will ideally be willing to develop and implement new and innovative ideas that enhance library services and support student learning.
You will be responsible for assisting students and staff to select program and age-appropriate materials, as well as supporting the stocktaking process, preparing and monitoring the library budget, and making recommendations for new library resources. Knowledge and experience using library and digital platforms including Oliver, Compass, LibGuides, ClickView, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva and Google Workspace would be highly desirable.
We are ideally seeking a highly organised, enthusiastic and customer-focused individual who enjoys working with students and staff as part of a collaborative school community. We are seeking a successful applicant who will combine strong organisational and administrative skills with a passion for books, literacy and learning, helping students discover a love of reading while ensuring the library remains a well-organised, engaging and valued resource that supports teaching and learning.
