About Us

Gur A Baradharaw Kod Torres Strait Sea and Land Council Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal Corporation (GBK) is the peak body for Registered Native Title Bodies Corporate (PBCs) across the Torres Strait. We work alongside Native Title Holders, PBCs, government agencies and key stakeholders to strengthen capacity, support traditional ownership responsibilities, and deliver outcomes that promote economic, social and cultural development across our region.

About the Role

Reporting to the General Manager People & Capability, The People Services Advisor works with our Administrator to provide practical advice, guidance and support to managers and employees and helps ensure our people practices are consistent, compliant and easy to navigate.

Key Areas

• Provide day-to-day advice and guidance to managers and employees on workplace policies, procedures and employment-related matters. Build capability across the organisation through practical advice and support.
• Coordinate with the Administrator to ensure job vacancies are posted and distributed.
• Prepare employment contracts and other documentation relating to employee relations, performance management and workplace matters.
• Monitor workforce trends, employee feedback and people-related issues to identify capability gaps and emerging development needs, improving the employee experience.
• Coordinate or deliver training and awareness sessions on people policies, procedures, systems and people management practices.
• Support the effective use of Employment Hero and other people systems.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance people services and systems.
• Collaborate with the WHS Officer to support initiatives that keep our people safe and well at work.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

• A naturally curious mindset and a proactive approach to problem-solving and improvements.
• Experience providing day-to-day advice and guidance to managers and employees on common workplace matters that builds capability and confidence.
• Strong communication skills and sound judgement when working with a range of stakeholders.
• A genuine interest in developing others and confidence facilitating small group presentations.
• Experience using HR systems, ideally Employment Hero, including reporting and workflow administration.
• A minimum qualification of Certificate IV in Human Resources.
