Financial Controller / Finance Manager – Construction

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller / Finance Manager to oversee the financial operations of a growing residential and commercial construction business. The successful candidate will work closely with the Directors and project team to ensure strong financial controls, accurate reporting, project profitability and effective cash-flow management.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day financial accounting function

• Manage monthly IAS, quarterly BAS, Payroll Tax, Superannuation and WorkCover requirements

• Prepare monthly P&L, Balance Sheet, cash-flow and management reports

• Manage Accounts Payable and Receivable, payroll and bank reconciliations

• Oversee project accounting, job costing, WIP and project profitability

• Monitor project budgets, committed costs, variations and cost-to-complete

• Prepare and manage business and project cash-flow forecasts

• Monitor progress claims, retentions, debtors and supplier/subcontractor payments

• Provide Directors and Project Managers with financial analysis and advice on cost control and project performance

• Assist with annual budgets, forecasting and financial planning

About you

• Previous experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or Senior Accountant role

• Strong understanding of residential and/or commercial construction accounting

• Demonstrated experience with job costing, WIP, project profitability and cash-flow forecasting

• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

• Commercially minded with the ability to provide practical financial advice to Directors and Project Managers

• Excellent communication and organisational skills

• Experience with construction and accounting software will be highly regarded
