We’re looking for an energetic, community-minded Retail Assistant & Community Manager to help deliver exceptional customer experiences while supporting the continued growth of our running community.

About the Role

This is a unique hybrid position that combines premium retail service with community engagement, events and content support.

While the primary focus of the role is retail operations and customer experience, you’ll also play an important role in representing the Up There Athletics brand within the running community and supporting events, marketing initiatives and storytelling content.

Approximately 70-80% of your time will be focused on retail sales and store operations, with 20-30% supporting community and marketing activities.

What You’ll Be Doing

Customer Experience & Retail Sales

• Deliver exceptional customer service aligned with the Up There Athletics brand.
• Provide expert product recommendations, fitting advice and sizing guidance.
• Build genuine relationships with customers and understand their individual goals.
• Support sales targets through outstanding service and product knowledge.
• Process sales, returns and exchanges efficiently.
• Assist with online order fulfilment and omni-channel retail operations.
• Maintain high levels of product knowledge across leading running and performance brands.

Store Operations

• Maintain an organised, clean and visually inspiring store environment.
• Execute visual merchandising and presentation standards.
• Replenish stock and support inventory management activities.
• Assist with stock counts, transfers and back-of-house organisation.
• Support store opening and closing procedures.

Community & Events

• Represent Up There Athletics at community runs, events, races and partner activations.
• Assist with the planning and delivery of store and community events.
• Build strong relationships with customers, ambassadors, community groups and brand partners.
• Help grow awareness and engagement within Melbourne and interstate running communities.
• Contribute ideas that strengthen participation and community connection.

Content & Marketing Support

• Capture and create content from events, product launches and community initiatives.
• Support social media and marketing campaigns.
• Gather customer insights and community feedback.
• Work collaboratively with the marketing team to bring brand stories to life.

About You

You’ll be someone who genuinely loves connecting with people and contributing to a positive team culture.

You’ll also bring:

• Previous retail experience (2+ years preferred)
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
• A proactive, self-motivated approach
• Confidence working across multiple priorities
• A passion for running, sport, fitness or community engagement
• Confidence using social media platforms and a good eye for content opportunities, trends and audience engagement
• Availability to work weekends, events and occasional interstate activations when required
