About the role
About the Organisation
Our client is a leading provider of metering and data services, operating at the intersection of technology, service and sustainability to support the energy and resource transition across Australia. The organisation delivers smarter infrastructure solutions that serve resource retailers, networks and end consumers, underpinned by a commitment to reliable and accurate measurement, data and insights that a sustainable energy future depends on.
The organisation is guided by their values of Safety, Team, Customer, Innovation and Accountability, and is entering an exciting period of growth and change.
About the Role
Communications does not yet have a home in this organisation, and that is precisely the opportunity. You will be the first person to hold the pen on how this business talks to its people, its customers and the wider industry, building the strategy, the channels and the trust from the ground up.
Some days will mean coaching a leader through a message they are about to deliver; others will mean drafting customer-facing updates, managing an issue as it unfolds in real time, or crafting the story that helps employees make sense of change. You will need to write with precision, think several steps ahead of a crisis, and read a room fast enough to know which message an audience actually needs to hear.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will work closely with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team, translating strategic priorities into communications that land clearly with every audience, from the field to the boardroom.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement integrated internal and external communication strategies aligned to business objectives.
Act as a trusted communications advisor to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and senior leaders.
Lead internal communications and employee engagement initiatives that build understanding, alignment and commitment across the organisation.
Develop and deliver external communication strategies for customers, suppliers, regulators and industry partners.
Lead crisis and issues communications activities, ensuring timely and effective communication during periods of disruption.
Create high-quality communication materials, including executive communications, presentations, townhalls and stakeholder updates.
About You
With a decade or more building your craft across corporate, internal and external communications, you will have almost certainly delivered some of your best work in the middle of business transformation or other moments where the story needs to be told carefully. Complementing your extensive experience, you will hold formal qualifications in communications, PR, journalism, corporate affairs or marketing.
You write like it matters, because you know it does, and you can move seamlessly from a punchy customer update to a nuanced briefing note for the CEO. You are just as comfortable being the only communications person in the building as you are leading a function twenty deep, and you would rather build the framework than wait for one to appear.
Above all, you bring judgement: the instinct to know when a message needs to be perfect and when it needs to be fast, and the resilience to hold your nerve when both are true at once. Experience in energy, utilities or another regulated sector, or a background in change communications, would be a natural fit.
Why Apply?
This is a rare opportunity to build and shape a communications function from the ground up, with direct exposure to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team during a defining period for the business.
How to Apply
If you are an experienced communications leader who thrives on ambiguity and enjoys building capability from scratch, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your application, including your resume and a cover letter addressing the key requirements of the role.
This organisation is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all backgrounds.
