Build a Career in the Marine Industry
Boatyard Hand & Travel Lift Operator Trainee
Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club | Newport, Sydney’s Northern Beaches
Looking for more than just a job? This could be the start of a highly skilled and sought-after career in the marine industry.
The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC) is looking for a motivated, practical and enthusiastic person to join our professional Boatyard team as a Boatyard Hand & Travel Lift Operator Trainee.
This is an exciting opportunity to learn on the job, receive paid specialist training and develop valuable skills in professional boatyard operations and vessel handling.
For the right person, we will provide training to become a Travel Lift Operator, including learning to safely lift, stand and launch vessels using our 50-tonne Travel Lift. These are specialised skills that can provide a strong foundation for a rewarding, long-term career in the marine industry.
Learn While You Work
You don’t need to arrive with years of boatyard experience. We are looking for someone with the right attitude, a willingness to learn and an interest in building a career.
Working alongside our experienced Boatyard team, you will receive practical, hands-on training and develop skills across:
Operation of our 50-tonne Travel Lift, following appropriate training.
Safe vessel handling and boatyard operations.
Sanding and application of marine coatings.
Vessel polishing and detailing.
Boatyard equipment, maintenance and operational procedures.
Marine environmental practices and Work Health and Safety (WHS).
As your skills and experience grow, so will your responsibilities.
A Career with Real Potential
The marine industry needs skilled, capable people, and specialist experience in vessel handling and Travel Lift operations can open the door to opportunities within boatyards, marinas and marine facilities.
At RPAYC, you will have the opportunity to:
Receive paid, on-the-job training.
Train to operate a 50-tonne Travel Lift.
Develop specialised and transferable marine industry skills.
Learn from an experienced professional Boatyard team.
Work with a wide variety of boats and marine operations.
Gain experience at an award-winning marine facility.
Obtain Marina Industry Association (MIA) Travel Lift accreditation.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
Motivated, reliable and keen to learn.
Practical and comfortable with hands-on work.
Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Committed to high standards of safety and environmental responsibility.
Keen to develop new skills and take on greater responsibility.
Have NSW Powerboat licence or willing to obtain.
Previous boating experience is an advantage, but your attitude, work ethic and willingness to learn are just as important.
Work Somewhere Different
Located on the shores of beautiful Pittwater at Newport on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the RPAYC Boatyard is an award-winning facility recognised by the Marina Industries Association (MIA) for excellence.
You’ll be joining a supportive team in a unique waterfront workplace while developing practical skills that can take your career well beyond an entry-level role.
Working Hours
Monday to Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, with additional hours as required.
