Steel Truck & Ute Tray Specialist — Permanent Full-Time
About SGM Australia (Top-Dek)SGM Australia — Trading as Top-Dek — are recognised leaders in the design, manufacture and supply of steel and aluminium trays for light trucks and utes across both private and commercial sectors. Operating from a well-resourced facility in Dandenong South, our passionate team runs two dedicated production areas, delivering precision-built tray bodies and accessories to a growing national customer base.
The OpportunityWe are looking for a skilled Steel MIG Welder / Fabricator to join our Dandenong South production team. This is a hands-on, full-time role where steel MIG welding forms the core of your day-to-day work. You will be building high-quality steel truck trays in our steel production area, working alongside an experienced crew of tradespersons and trades assistants.
Note: Some aluminium welding may be required from time to time, but this is a secondary requirement and is not essential to be considered for this role.
Key ResponsibilitiesSteel MIG weld and fabricate truck trays and ute trays to high standard in a structured production environment.
Read and interpret fabrication drawings, ensuring precise cuts, fits and weld quality on all steel components.
Maintain consistent weld quality and finish, adhering to company quality standards.
When required fit and install completed trays and associated accessories to light trucks and utes.
Follow all WHS regulations and actively promote a safety-first culture on the production floor.
Support fellow team members with fabrication techniques, quality standards and safe work practices.
Coordinate with the Production Manager to prioritise workloads and meet production schedules.
Contribute ideas to improve efficiency, productivity and product quality.
Carry out occasional aluminium welding and fabrication tasks as required (desirable, not essential).
Good communication and team skills — we’re a small, tight-knit crew.
