Primary objective
The Chief Industries Officer, Food Services, lead the development of Prisoners in a modern, progressive and efficient industry that meets
commercial standards. Oversee the day-to-day operations within a custodial institution that meets industry standards for prisoners enrolled in
Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the pursuit of real employment opportunities.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. At the direction of the Principal Industries Officer manage and monitor the operation of the Food Services industry including the supervision
of staff and both the control and training of prisoners.
2. Be responsible for the operation of Berrimah Correctional Centre with respect to the supervision, training and assessment of prisoners to
Certificate I and II level.
3. Improve prisoner outcomes through development and delivery of vocational training to prisoners in the Food Services Industry.
4. Be responsible for the efficient and effective utilisation of resources and maintain financial records on stock, expenditure, revenue and
workflows.
5. Produce concise, accurate and timely reports to management as required.
6. Ensure Equal Opportunity, Anti-Discrimination and Work Health and Safety principles and standards are promoted and supported.
7. Ensure that all purchases are consistent with the Northern Territory Government procurement guidelines; this includes the necessary
documentation for ordering, recoveries and purchases.
8. Ensure high standards of customer service, production, quality control and closely monitor service delivery throughout the Correctional Centre.
9. Be responsible for the maintenance of security including providing assistance in custodial operations within the Correctional Centre.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Certificate III in Catering (as a minimum) or other relevant trade qualification in Food Services.
2. Certificate IV in Correctional Practice, Certificate IV in Frontline Management / Leadership and Management and Certificate IV in Training
and Assessment or ability to complete these within 12 months. (a fixed term appointment of 12months will be offered to obtain qualification
3. Good interpersonal skills and well-developed leadership skills with the ability to interact positively and effectively with people of diverse
cultures, manage crisis situations and resolve conflict.
4. Demonstrated experience of the health and safety standards that apply to Food Services industry activities.
5. Ability to perform all custodial functions as directed.
6. Demonstrated high level communication skills within the management of contracts, finances and customer service with the ability to liaise
with external providers and contractors.
7. Proven ability to develop and maintain positive networks and effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including the commercial
industry.

9. A current driver’s license and ability to obtain NT driver’s license before commencement.
10. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with the special needs of Aboriginal prisoners.
Desirable
1. An understanding of relevant custodial legislation and a demonstrated knowledge of financial Management Principles and practices in the
Northern Territory Public Sector.
