About the Role

We are looking for an Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer who treats systems as a craft and views infrastructure through the lens of software engineering. In this role, you will take ownership of infrastructure and cloud services for our Australian and US-based clients, leveraging Azure, GCP, GKE, and AWS. You will be responsible for building reliable, scalable, and automated systems using DevSecOps and Infrastructure automation tools, including Terraform, Ansible, Helm, OPA, and scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

Working alongside a team of senior engineers and architects, you will have a high degree of autonomy and the responsibility to shape the technical future of our clients' landscapes. While we are based in Sydney and require 1–2 days per week in the CBD, we offer significant remote flexibility and hours that work for you.

Responsibilities: Engineering for Scalability and Velocity

In this role, you won't just be "managing" systems; you will be designing and building them to be reliable, automated, and observable from the ground up. Your focus will include:

• Architecting Cloud Ecosystems: Designing and implementing cloud-based infrastructure and solutions on the GCP, Azure, and AWS platforms that are secure by design and resilient by nature.

• Living the "Everything as Code" Philosophy: Automating the full life-cycle of complex systems using Terraform, Ansible, Helm, and Python – moving away from manual configuration toward repeatable, predictable environments

• Infrastructure as Software: Bringing a software engineering mindset to infrastructure, ensuring systems are resilient, adequately monitored, instrumented, and scalable.

• Technical Thought Leadership: Providing guidance and thought leadership to our clients' internal teams, you will have the chance to influence and drive meaningful technical improvements.

• High-Quality Documentation: Contributing to technical documentation and architectural diagrams using Markdown, ensuring our knowledge base is as clean as our code.

• Operational Excellence: Responding to and resolving critical system incidents with a focus on root-cause analysis, prevention, and long-term fixes.

The Profile: Technologists Only

We are looking for someone who doesn't just work in tech, but lives it. Whether you have a dedicated home lab, a collection of GitHub repos, or a passion for obscure Linux distros, we value that curiosity.

• Educational Foundation: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field involving coding.

• Proven Engineering Track Record: Demonstrated design and technology implementation ability, specifically within high-stakes engineering and system administration environments.

• The Automation Mindset: Strong automation and scripting skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell) with demonstrated ability to write maintainable code.

• Technical Depth: A deep understanding of Linux (specifically Debian-based distributions) and containerisation. Extensive knowledge in traditional and cloud-based networking and underlying protocols (IPv4, TCP, DNS). Proficiency with technologies like Load Balancing, next-gen firewalls, CDNs, Linux eBPF, and iptables.

• Tooling Fluency: Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) pipelines, GitOps/GitSecOps, and modern monitoring stacks like Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry, and use of AI agents in IaC development.

• Contemporary Technology Exposure: Experience implementing and supporting business-critical tech. Our clients rely on Spark/Databricks, BigQuery, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Odoo ERP, Kubernetes, Istio, Argo, Jenkins, Cloud WAF, Azure Load Balancers, Azure DevOps, and more.

• Location: You must be Sydney-based.

• Mandatory Status: Full unrestricted rights to work in Australia; we are not sponsoring visas for this role.

Alongside deep technical ability, you are organised, self-directed, and able to prioritise effectively in high-stakes environments. You can work independently with minimal supervision while knowing when to collaborate or escalate. You enjoy explaining complex ideas simply and value clear, respectful communication.

Perks & Logistics

• Remuneration: $160,000–$190,000 base + 12% superannuation.
