About the Role

We are currently hiring Full time Metal Fabricator/Welders to work in our Dandenong South, VIC Warehouse.

The successful candidate must work well in a team and take direction from the factory supervisor and are dedicated, reliable, take responsibility and pride in your work

Duties and responsibilities: 

• Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures.

• Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.

• Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with powered saws to match measurements)

• Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.

• Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.

• Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead)

• Shaping and bending metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, and by heating and hammering

• Joining metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting, and riveting

• Examining welds for width of bead, penetration, and precision

• Cleaning and smoothing welds by filing, chiseling, and grinding.

• Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws.

• Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.

Working Hours: 38 hours / week, Monday to Friday.

Morning Shift: 7 am to 3 pm

Afternoon Shift: 3 pm to 11 pm

Work experience:

• At least 3 years of experience as a Metal Fabricator/Welder

• Experience with steel preparation and processing

Education/Skills:

• Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade / equivalent

• Good MIG welding/fabrication skills with both hand tools and machines, including cutting, shaping, bending, joining, filing and grinding

Other qualities:

• Ability to follow instructions

• Self-motivated and be able to work independently and in a team

• Good attention to detail

• Strong communication skills

• Ability to work with hands, lift heavy objects and stand on your feet for long periods of time often doing repetitive motions

You will also be required to maintain tools and equipment to a professional standard, keep workstations clean and orderly to retain a safe and operational work environment and monitor and report on any potential hazards.
