Principal Tailings & Dams AAP

As Principal Engineer, Tailings & Dams, you will provide technical leadership, governance, and expert guidance for tailings storage facilities (TSFs) and water storage dams across Newmont's Africa Asia-Pacific (AAP) portfolio, with opportunities to support global operations. You will help ensure safe, sustainable, and conformant tailings and water management practices while supporting operational excellence, risk management, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Develop and implement tools, processes, standards, and methodologies to strengthen tailings and dam management practices.
• Lead or support risk assessments and help drive risk mitigation strategies for tailings facilities and water dams.
• Act as a key technical liaison with engineering consultants, Engineers of Record, project teams, and site stakeholders.
• Provide technical review and guidance on geotechnical, hydrological, and hydrogeological studies, designs, and operational plans.
• Support operational and project teams in tailings and water management planning.
• Evaluate and recommend innovative technologies and improvement opportunities.
• Mentor, coach, and develop Responsible Tailings Facility Engineers (RTFEs), Responsible Tailings Facility Persons (RTFPs), and other technical team members.
• Work with RTFEs, RTFPs, and other technical team members to ensure TSFs and WSFs risks are being managed and facilities are performing as intended.
• Support the development of safe, effective, and sustainable solutions for existing operations, legacy sites, projects, and new mines.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
• SME experience in tailings and water dam design, construction, management, operations, or closure.
• Strong knowledge of civil, geological, geotechnical, and hydrological engineering principles and practices.
• Experience supporting mining operations, engineering consulting projects, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Experience leading the design and execution of TSF projects through concept, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and operations.
• Knowledge of geotechnical and hydrological analysis methods and risk assessment practices.
• Proficiency with engineering and modeling software such as AutoCAD, SLIDE, SEEP/W, FSCONSOL, GOLDSIM, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, FLAC, PLAXIS, MUCK3D, etc.
• Strong technical writing, presentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience evaluating projects through concept, design, operations, and closure phases.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse global teams and stakeholders.
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%.
