About us:
One Tree Defence Unit Little Geckos - Tindal NT One Tree Defence Unit Little Geckos is located at RAAF Base Tindal, just 15 kilometres outside of Katherine, Little Geckos provides early childhood education and care to Australian Defence personnel and their families.
Katherine is the fourth-largest settlement in the Northern Territory and is known as the place where
the outback meets the tropics. Situated on the Katherine River, approximately 320 kilometres south-east of Darwin, the region offers an incredible lifestyle for those looking for adventure, community and a rewarding career.
Little Geckos has capacity for 73 children and operates between 7:00am and 5:30pm, Monday to Friday. Our service includes three dedicated learning environments designed to support children across different age groups and stages of development.

The Role We are looking for an experienced and passionate Director to lead our team at Little Geckos on a permanent, full-time basis.
As Director, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the service while providing strong, supportive and collaborative leadership to your team. You will play a key role in creating a positive workplace culture where educators feel supported, families feel connected and children receive high-quality education and care.
Working closely with your team and the wider One Tree organisation, you will be responsible for maintaining high standards across compliance, educational practice, staffing, service operations and continuous improvement.
You will also build strong relationships with Defence families and the wider RAAF Base Tindal community, ensuring Little Geckos continues to be a welcoming and inclusive service where children and families feel a genuine sense of belonging.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced early childhood leader who is ready to take ownership of a service, develop their team and make a meaningful impact within a unique Defence community.
Your Responsibilities - Lead the day-to-day operations and overall performance of the service
- Provide strong, supportive and collaborative leadership to educators and the wider service team
- Foster a positive, inclusive and professional workplace culture
- Ensure the service provides safe, high-quality education and care for all children
- Maintain compliance with the National Quality Framework, National Quality Standards and relevant legislation and regulations
- Lead and contribute to the service's Quality Improvement Plan and continuous improvement processes
- Support, mentor and develop educators and emerging leaders within the service
- Oversee staffing, rostering and operational requirements to support the effective running of the service
- Build strong and respectful relationships with children, families and the Defence community
- Support high-quality educational programs and practices across the service
- Work collaboratively with One Tree's operational and support teams
- Maintain accurate records, documentation and regulatory requirements
- Promote the wellbeing, safety and inclusion of children across all areas of the service
About You - A Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care or ACECQA-approved equivalent
- Demonstrated leadership experience within an early childhood education and care environment
- Previous experience as a Director, Centre Manager, Assistant Director or in a similar leadership position
- Strong knowledge of the Early Years Learning Framework, National Quality Framework and National Quality Standards
- Sound understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements within early childhood education and care
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and develop a team
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to confidently manage the day-to-day operations of a service
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive and professional relationships with children, families, educators and key stakeholders
- A commitment to creating a positive team culture and providing safe, inclusive and high-quality education and care
- Ability to meet all regulatory and employment requirements applicable to the position
