Born out of the role and value of sport and the influence the North Melbourne Kangaroos plays in connecting people across different ages, genders and cultures; The Huddle was established in 2010 as the community arm of the Club in partnership with the Scanlon Foundation and the Australian Multicultural Foundation.

It was established to engage, support and empower young people to build on their strengths, increase their ability to participate in society and contribute to more socially inclusive communities. The Huddle works with some of the most iconic sporting clubs in the world to help young people learn, grow and belong. Through the design of its innovative programs, The Huddle leverages the power of sport to strengthen social inclusion, education and careers for young people.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The key objective of the Careers Coordinator - Programs (Part Time Fixed Expiry Contract ending 30 June 2028 - 4 days per week) is to lead the development, implementation and ongoing coordination of The Huddle’s Game Changers careers program. Providing young people from diverse backgrounds with opportunities to develop, demonstrate and showcase transferable skills that support future employment and career pathways.

Reporting to the Head of Careers, this role is responsible for:

• Coordinating and facilitating The Huddle's Game Changers careers program, including workshops in classroom and community settings
• Organising Pitch Events and Employment Experiences for young people to connect with industry professionals
• Growing engagement with young people, particularly from East-African-Australian backgrounds, through strong program pathways
• Supporting a communications plan to promote Game Changers, drive participant recruitment and showcase program impact
• Representing The Huddle and the North Melbourne Kangaroos at club and community events

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for a driven and community-minded individual who can build trust, deliver engaging career programs and drive meaningful outcomes for young people and families.

Strong connections with East-African-Australian, and particularly Somali-Australian, communities are highly regarded due to the nature of the work.

The successful candidate will have the following skills and knowledge:

• Demonstrated experience supporting young people from culturally diverse backgrounds in education, training and employment pathways in a professional capacity
• A demonstrated connection with Somali-Australian young people, families and communities across Melbourne, Wyndham and surrounding areas
• Demonstrated experience in program and/or workshop facilitation, with the ability to create safe, inclusive learning environments
• Strong capability to build, manage and maintain effective relationships, including the ability to provide advice, support and mentorship in career development
• Outstanding organisational and project management skills, with an understanding of data collection and evaluation methodologies
• Careers counselling or coordination experience, along with proficiency in CRM systems and the MS Office suite, is highly regarded

The successful candidate is required to undergo and pass a police check, and hold a current and valid Victorian Working with Children’s Check or Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
