About the role
We are a privately owned Gold Coast group operating across property development, construction, industrial property, equipment and importing, with a significant pipeline of residential and commercial development projects.
We are seeking an experienced, commercially minded Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to work directly with the Directors and take ownership of the financial management and strategic financial direction of the group.
This is not simply a reporting or accounting position. We need someone who can understand the complete financial position of a growing private group, look forward, identify risks early and give the Directors clear advice to support major business and development decisions.
The RoleYou will take responsibility for the group's finance function, including:
Managing the group's relationship with banks and other lenders
Development and construction finance, facility management, drawdowns and refinancing
Preparing information and financial modelling for bank submissions and funding applications
Maintaining rolling cash flow forecasts across multiple entities and projects
Developing financial forecasts
Consolidating the group's financial position to provide Directors with clear visibility of cash, debt, equity, commitments and future funding requirements
Financial modelling and feasibility analysis for new property developments and acquisitions
Forecasting peak debt, interest costs, project returns and funding requirements
Managing and developing the existing finance and accounts team
Improving the accuracy and timeliness of management reporting
Reviewing and implementing new financial systems if required, controls, dashboards and processes
Improving project/job costing and financial reporting
Coordinating tax planning before major transactions occur
Reviewing entity structures and financial flows across the group
Budgeting and variance analysis
Identifying financial risks before they become problems
Providing practical commercial advice directly to the Directors
Taking ownership of financial issues and driving them through to resolution
We are particularly interested in candidates with senior finance experience within:
Property development | Construction | Private investment groups | Commercial/industrial property
Ideally, you will have:
Previous CFO, Finance Director or senior Financial Controller experience
Strong experience with property development and construction finance
Experience dealing directly with major Australian banks and development funding
Strong financial modelling and cashflow forecasting capability
Experience managing multiple entities and complex intercompany transactions
Strong understanding of Australian tax structures and the ability to coordinate specialist tax advisers
Experience implementing or improving financial and reporting systems
Leadership skills and experience managing finance/accounting teams
CPA, CA or equivalent professional qualification
The ability to understand the detail while maintaining a clear view of the group's overall financial position
We are looking for someone hands-on and commercially practical.
You must be comfortable opening a financial model yourself, interrogating the numbers and understanding exactly what is happening rather than simply delegating preparation to the finance team.
You should be capable of sitting with the Directors and clearly explaining:
Where the group is financially today
Where it will be in 3, 6, 12 and 24 months
What projects we can comfortably commence
Where future cash or funding pressure will occur
What funding needs to be arranged and when
What financial risks require attention
How proposed investments or developments affect the wider group
We want someone who can bring structure, forward planning and financial discipline to a growing group while allowing the Directors to make faster, better-informed decisions.
Why Join Us?This is an opportunity to become a key member of a privately owned group with a substantial pipeline of property and construction projects.
You will work directly with the owners, have genuine influence over business decisions and have the authority to improve the finance function, systems and team.
This role would particularly suit an experienced CFO or Finance Director who enjoys being close to the business, projects and decision-making rather than operating within a large corporate environment.
Location: Gold Coast, Queensland
Employment: Permanent full-time
