The Marquis of Lorne is a neighbourhood pub in Fitzroy, recognised for thoughtful food, genuine hospitality and a long-standing connection to its local community.

Across three levels, we’re a busy pub built around good food, good drinks and warm, professional service. We value consistency, teamwork and people who genuinely enjoy hospitality, and we're looking for an experienced Duty Manager / Shift Supervisor to join our front of house team.

This is a permanent part-time position of approximately 30 hours per week, with evening and weekend availability essential.

Working alongside our Venue Manager and senior leadership team, you'll be a hands-on presence across the floor and bar, helping lead service while supporting the wider front of house team.

This isn't a role spent standing back and watching service happen. You'll be in it with the team: serving guests, running sections, pouring beers, solving problems and helping make sure every service feels organised, professional and genuinely welcoming.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading and supervising the front of house team during service.

• Supporting junior team members and helping maintain consistent service standards.

• Ensuring the venue is set, prepared and ready for service.

• Providing confident food and beverage service across the floor and bar.

• Working closely with the kitchen team to deliver seamless service.

• Maintaining responsible service of alcohol and venue compliance standards.

• Monitoring guest experience and responding to issues as they arise.

• Assisting with venue opening and closing procedures.

• Completing end-of-shift cash reconciliation and ensuring floats are correctly managed.

• Maintaining presentation, cleanliness and operational standards throughout the venue.

• Supporting training and development of junior team members.

• Stepping up and taking ownership of the shift when required.

You'll bring:

• Previous experience as a Duty Manager, Shift Supervisor, Team Leader or experienced senior front of house professional prefered 

• Experience in quality pubs, bistros or restaurants.

• Strong food and beverage knowledge and a genuine interest in hospitality.

• Confidence leading a team during busy services.

• A hands-on approach. You're comfortable leading from the floor rather than the sidelines.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Good judgement and the ability to make decisions during service.

• Confidence with POS systems, cash handling and closing procedures.

• Availability across evenings and weekends.

• WSET Level 2 is ideal

Wine, beer and broader beverage knowledge will be highly regarded, as will formal hospitality training.
