Quality Inspector

RRC Australia are seeking a Quality Inspector to join our client who manufactures and produces steel packaging products, including steel drums and pails.

This is a hands-on quality role working directly within the manufacturing environment. You will play an important part in ensuring products consistently meet customer specifications, manufacturing standards and VIP Steel's quality requirements.

Working closely with the production team, you will inspect products throughout the manufacturing process, identify defects or deviations and provide timely feedback to ensure quality issues are addressed before products leave the facility.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Conducting visual, dimensional and functional inspections of steel drums, pails and associated components.
• Inspecting products throughout the manufacturing process to ensure they meet specified dimensions, tolerances and quality requirements.
• Checking finished products for defects including issues with forming, seams, joins, closures, surfaces, finishes and overall presentation.
• Using measurement and inspection equipment such as verniers/calipers, micrometers, gauges and other precision measuring tools.
• Reading and interpreting product specifications, drawings, work instructions and quality requirements.
• Performing first-off, in-process and final product inspections.
• Identifying, recording and escalating non-conforming products and manufacturing defects.
• Working closely with machine operators, production personnel and supervisors to investigate quality issues and implement corrective actions.
• Completing accurate inspection records, quality documentation and production reports.
• Monitoring recurring quality issues and contributing to continuous improvement and defect-reduction initiatives.
• Supporting a strong quality culture across the production floor by providing practical feedback to the manufacturing team.
• Ensuring all inspection and quality activities are completed in accordance with company procedures and safety requirements.

Hours

This is a full-time day-shift position, working:

Monday – Thursday: 6:00am – 4:00pm

There may also be occasional overtime on Fridays, depending on production requirements.

About You

We are looking for someone who is hands-on, detail-oriented and passionate about getting quality right.

You will be comfortable working on a manufacturing floor and have the confidence to identify quality issues, communicate them to production and follow them through to resolution.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Previous experience in quality inspection, quality control or manufacturing.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify small defects or variations in finished products.
• A strong understanding of dimensional measurement and product tolerances.
• Experience using measuring equipment such as verniers/calipers, micrometers, gauges and similar inspection tools.
• The ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and work instructions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
• The ability to work effectively with production operators and supervisors in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• A proactive approach to identifying problems and preventing quality issues from recurring.
• A strong commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement.

Desirable Experience

The following would be highly regarded:

• Experience within steel, metal, sheet-metal or packaging manufacturing.
• Experience inspecting drums, pails, containers or other formed metal products.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as metal forming, pressing, rolling, welding/seaming or assembly.
• Experience working with steel or tinplate products.
• Previous exposure to non-conformance reporting, root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• A qualification or background in engineering, manufacturing, materials science, quality management or a related discipline.
