Dream Maker Community Services
About the role
Dream Maker Community Services(DMCS), a well-known and nationally recognised NDIS service provider. DMCS is dedicated to empowering people with disabilities through tailored, person-centred care. Together, we are driven by a shared commitment to delivering impactful support that promotes independence, dignity, and meaningful community participation.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking experienced and confident Support Workers to work three shifts per week (24 hours per week). Days are negotiable, with shifts available across the following times:
7:00 am – 3:00 pm
3:00 pm – 11:00 pm
11:00 pm – 7:00 am
This is a highly complex and high-intensity support role requiring Support Workers with demonstrated experience working with participants who have significant behavioural, psychosocial, substance-use and support needs. This is not a standard Support Worker role (the participant displays physical and verbal behaviours).
The participant presents with a range of complex support requirements, including:
High and complex behaviours of concern, including physical and verbal behaviours that may present significant risks to the participant, workers and others.
A history of regular drug and alcohol use, requiring an understanding of the impact that substance use may have on behaviour, presentation, wellbeing, engagement and safety.
A history of psychosis and psychosocial disability, requiring a calm, consistent, respectful and trauma-informed approach.
Significant challenges with personal hygiene, self-care and daily living, requiring appropriate prompting, encouragement and practical support.
A high level of dependence on external providers and services to support her health, wellbeing, daily living and medical needs.
The successful candidates will be responsible for building a strong, respectful and trusting relationship with the participant while maintaining clear professional boundaries and consistently implementing behaviour support plan.
ABOUT THE CANDIDATE
We are looking for Support Workers who have the experience, confidence and resilience required to work with high-complexity participants and who understands that this role requires significantly more than routine support. The ideal candidates will have:
Demonstrated experience managing high and complex physical and verbal behaviours, including strong risk mitigation, de-escalation and redirection strategies.
Experience supporting people with drug and alcohol use and psychosocial disabilities, including psychosis.
Confidence working in unpredictable and high-risk situations, with sound professional judgement and a strong focus on safety.
The ability to provide prompting and encouragement with personal hygiene, self-care, appointments and daily living activities.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
The ability to work collaboratively with health professionals, behaviour practitioners, support coordinators and other providers.
A respectful and culturally safe approach when supporting an Aboriginal participant.
The ability to build trust and rapport while maintaining clear professional boundaries and consistency
