Mental Illness Education ACT (MIEACT) is a Canberra-based, nationally accredited not-for-profit organisation with more than 30 years' experience delivering evidence-informed mental health promotion and prevention programs. Why join our Board?
MIEACT is seeking new Directors to join its eight-member Board. Working collaboratively with fellow Directors and the CEO, you will contribute to the strategic direction, governance, sustainability and impact of the organisation. As part of planned Board succession and leadership transition, opportunities will also be available for interested Directors to nominate for the positions of Vice-President and Treasurer. Successful candidates will be elected at the MIEACT Annual General Meeting on 18 November 2026 in Canberra.
We are seeking Directors with expertise in one or more of the following:
Finance, accounting or auditMental Health qualificationEducation (particularly youth educationFundraising and philanthropyLegalDigital innovation, technology or cybersecurityStrategic leadership and organisational development. We strongly encourage applications from people with lived experience of mental health challenges, carers, family members and individuals from diverse backgrounds and communities.
All Directors are expected to demonstrate:
Commitment to MIEACT's purpose, values and missionStrategic thinking and sound judgementStrong communication and collaboration skillsAn understanding of governance responsibilities or a willingness to develop these skillsA commitment to ethical leadership and community impact. A current CVA brief statement outlining your interest in the role and the skills or experience you would bring to the Board. Applications close on COB Monday,14 September 2026, and should be submitted to hr@mieact.org.au. Following an initial review of applications, shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview and due diligence process conducted by the Board's Nominations Committee. It is expected that this process will take place in late September / early October 2026.
