We are seeking a highly motivated Advanced Genomics Services (AGS) Scientist to join our Melbourne-based Innovation & Development (I&D) team. This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of genomic technologies, partnering with researchers and industry clients to deliver tailored, bespoke solutions that support scientific discovery and translational research.
Our Advanced Genomic Services includes single cell workflows (eg 10X genomics), chromatin mapping applications (eg Hi-C, CUT&RUN, ATAC-seq)
You will independently deliver complex AGS projects, working collaboratively with internal and external stake holders to ensure each project meets client needs, while also contributing to the ongoing development of AGRF's service portfolio and the evaluation of emerging technologies.
This role offers a rare combination of hands-on laboratory work, scientific problem-solving, client engagement and technology development in a collaborative and innovative high throughput environment.
What You'll Be DoingDeliver AGS projects for a diverse range of research and translational clients at production volume and within contracted turnaround times
Optimise, validate and implement bespoke genomic workflows to ensure high-quality outcomes in line with QA/QC compliance requirements
Perform complex, multi-step molecular biology and next-generation sequencing (NGS) sample preparation protocols with precision and reproducibility
Troubleshoot technical challenges and identify practical solutions for complex projects
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the enhancement of AGRF's service offerings
Support clients by providing scientific expertise and technical guidance during project design and implementation
You are an experienced, curious, adaptable and solutions-focused scientist who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, and high- throughput environment. You want to be the genomics expert, happy to work on a diverse range of research projects to support researcher goals. You are comfortable executing complex, bespoke laboratory workflows and enjoy tackling complex scientific challenges and are excited by the opportunity to work with cutting-edge genomic technologies that support groundbreaking research.
Essential Skills & Experience:5 years minimum experience in molecular biology with experience in genomics
Hands on experience of sample preparation and NGS protocols
Ability to execute complex, multi-step genomics protocols with high precision and reproducibility
Understanding and experience with a range of molecular and genomic assays and technologies preferably across a range of different species and research disciplines
In depth understanding of molecular biology with a high level of ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
Ability to optimise and validate sample preparation workflows to acceptable quality standards
Commitment to continuous learning to adapt to the evolving nature of workflows
Good verbal and written communication skills
Effective organisational skills, the ability to set priorities according to organisational needs and work with fluctuating workloads and competing project deadlines in a commercial or production settings
Ability to apply theoretical knowledge and techniques to a range of procedures and tasks
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a cross-functional team
PhD in molecular biology, genomics or a related discipline
Experience or knowledge of single cell genomic platforms or experience or knowledge of 3D genomic architecture and chromatin mapping assays
Understanding or experience in multiple species, including in plant systems
Knowledge of issues important for genetic analyses from a wide range of biological samples and the ability to provide practical solutions
Knowledge of genomic analysis, including relevant software and bioinformatics tools.
Ability to develop and implement new work practices
Ability to troubleshoot processes relating to client enquiries and laboratory issues
Prior experience in a commercial or core genomics services environment
