Launch or build your career in buying with David Jones!As a Buyers Assistant, you’ll play an important role in bringing together the products, brands and experiences that inspire our customers. Working alongside an experienced Buyer, you’ll support the delivery of the category strategy while gaining hands-on exposure to range planning, product performance, supplier management and the end-to-end product lifecycle.This is an opportunity to develop your commercial capability, build relationships across the retail industry and make a meaningful contribution within Australia’s leading premium department store.About the OpportunityIn this permanent role, you’ll provide planning, analytical and administrative support to the Buyer, helping ensure our ranges are relevant, commercially successful and delivered to stores and online at the right time.You’ll work closely with suppliers and collaborate across Merchandise Planning, Marketing, Supply Chain, Visual Merchandising, eCommerce and our store network. You’ll also use customer, sales and market insights to help identify emerging trends, improve product performance and support future buying decisions.What You’ll DoSupport the Buyer with category strategy, range development and seasonal planningUse sales performance, customer insights and market trends to inform product and ranging decisionsAssist with the development and maintenance of brand maps and product assortmentsBuild effective relationships with suppliers and coordinate day-to-day vendor communicationsValidate and manage purchase orders, helping ensure stock is delivered on time and in fullMonitor product performance, stock levels, promotional activity and competitor offeringsSupport weekly stock ordering, allocations, replenishment and inventory managementCoordinate samples, ticketing and product requirements for marketing, eCommerce and in-store campaignsPartner with Marketing, Merchandise Planning, Supply Chain, Visual Merchandising and store teams to deliver successful product and brand launchesPrepare product, vendor and performance reports to support commercial decision-makingContribute to post-season reviews and recommend opportunities to improve future ranges and brand performance
What We’re Looking ForA genuine passion for retail, product, brands and emerging customer trendsPrevious experience within retail, buying, merchandise planning, allocation is beneficialStrong numerical and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detailConfidence using Microsoft Excel and the broader Microsoft Office suite as well as AI tools such as CopilotStrong organisation skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentClear and confident communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationshipsA proactive, curious and solutions-focused approachThe ability to work collaboratively across teams while taking ownership of individual responsibilitiesA qualification in business, fashion, merchandising or a related discipline will be highly regarded
