Scheduling Officer (Rail Replacement Bus)

We’re looking for a Rail Replacement Bus Scheduling Officer to join our Operational Planning team on a permanent, full-time basis, based at 595 Collins Street Office.

As part of the OPD Network Timetabling & Planning team, you will research, develop and issue MTM’s daily timetable, ensuring operational changes are accurately reflected to support service delivery, special events, temporary track occupations and access requirements across the metropolitan rail network.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the development and coordination train replacement bus service plans (strategy) in consultation with the Timetable Delivery team (or equivalent) within Operational Planning, and other stakeholders, to support the Maintenance and Renewals program
• Ensure information required by train replacement bus operators is provided on time and in accordance with contractual requirements.
• Assist in forecasting bussing costs for planned disruptions and occupations, while proactively identifying and implementing cost-saving initiatives to improve operational efficiency.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure resources are scheduled to support planned bussing events, and customer notifications are displayed and received in a timely manner.
• Review outcomes of planned occupations and prepare reports from in-field data as per Franchise Agreement requirements.
• Analysing strategic plans and issues to make recommendations in respect to required modifications and improvements.
• Downloading GPS records, checking and marking completed tally sheets and compile missed bus services to claim from the Operator.
• Calculating the Tolls charges for affected planned Busing jobs.
• Research, design and production of complex timetables and other associated documentation for all service alterations.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Science, Business Analytics, Transport Planning or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to leverage systems and tools to improve processes, drive outcomes and challenge existing ways of working.
• Stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain information to internal and external parties, driving effective outcomes.
• Ability to follow occupational health, safety and environmental procedures in the rail industry.
• Demonstrated experience in timetable development and publication within a Timetable Management System (TMS) environment, with a sound understanding of fleet, infrastructure maintenance and servicing requirements.
• Thorough knowledge of metropolitan bus routes and infrastructure, with the ability to develop detailed understanding of rail replacement bus routes, stops  and operations.
• Broad operational knowledge with an understanding of financial, human and operational factors.
