About the role
Midland Industries is seeking an experienced and motivated Trailer Fit out Team Leader to join our manufacturing operations in Kyneton, Victoria.
This is a full-time position and is a key leadership role within our trailer manufacturing operation. You will lead the Fitout Team and be responsible for coordinating the daily fit out of trailers, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on time and to Midland Industries' quality standards.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader who can lead from the front, support the team, solve problems and drive accountability. You will work closely with Engineering, Fabrication, Stores, QA and Management to ensure trailers move through Fit out efficiently and are completed ready for final inspection and dispatch.
Key responsibilitiesLead, supervise and develop the Fit out Team, providing direction, support and coaching
Plan and coordinate daily fit out activities to achieve production schedules and targets
Allocate work across the team and ensure priorities are clearly understood
Oversee the fit out and installation of air, electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems
Ensure trailers are completed correctly and in accordance with drawings, specifications and work instructions
Conduct regular quality checks and ensure defects or non-conformances are identified and resolved promptly
Take ownership of Fit out quality, productivity and delivery performance
Monitor progress throughout the day and communicate any delays, issues or resource requirements to Management
Ensure all required parts and materials are available and coordinate with Stores and Purchasing where required
Work closely with Engineering to resolve drawing, design and technical issues
Maintain strong communication with Fabrication, QA, Stores and other production areas to ensure smooth workflow
Ensure all tools, equipment and work areas are maintained and organized
Lead daily toolbox talks and ensure all team members follow company safety procedures
Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, accountability and teamwork
Monitor team performance and identify training and development opportunities
Track production performance and provide feedback to Management
Identify opportunities to improve fit out processes, reduce rework and improve build times
Support the implementation of standard work, continuous improvement and 5S practices
Lead by example and be prepared to work hands-on alongside the team when required
Proven experience as a Team Leader, Leading Hand or Supervisor within a manufacturing environment
Experience in trailer manufacturing, heavy vehicle, automotive, mechanical assembly or similar industries
Strong understanding of trailer fit out and assembly processes
Practical knowledge of air, electrical and hydraulic systems
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and work instructions
Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and hold a team accountable
Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Strong commitment to quality and attention to detail
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Engineering, Production, Stores, QA and Management
Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements
A proactive approach to identifying and resolving production issues
Ability to work under pressure and maintain production standards
A genuine interest in developing people and improving manufacturing processes
Relevant trade qualifications or manufacturing experience would be advantageous
Current driver's license desirable
