Strategic Business Architect/Analyst

Approach are exclusively recruiting a Strategic Business Architect / Senior Business Analyst for one of the Australian Government's most influential central agencies. This organisation plays a critical role in enabling government to deliver modern, secure and effective services, while driving whole-of-government digital capability, investment and transformation.

This is a rare opportunity to join a high-performing team responsible for defining how government organisations operate today and how they should evolve for the future. Lead strategic business architecture initiatives that influence enterprise direction, operating models and investment decisions, and also applying your senior business analysis expertise across ICT projects and transformation programs as they progress through delivery.

There is a significant amount of variety in this role - one day you could be developing a future-state Business Capability Model or Target Operating Model that informs strategic planning across government, and the next you'll be facilitating workshops, capturing business requirements or mentoring Business Analysts delivering complex digital initiatives.

This role will require an active Baseline clearance or higher

You'll be responsible for:

• Developing business architecture artefacts including Target Operating Models, Business Capability Models, Value Streams and other strategic blueprints aligned to recognised frameworks such as TOGAF, BIZBOK and BABOK.
• Preparing business cases, options papers and proposals that support strategic investment and planning decisions.
• Leading business analysis activities across ICT initiatives, including stakeholder engagement, requirements elicitation, process modelling and business documentation.
• Using modelling tools to create architecture and business analysis artefacts that integrate with broader enterprise architecture.
• Collaborating closely with architecture specialists across business, data, application and technology domains.
• Providing leadership, guidance and coaching to Business Analysts while contributing to best practice across the function.

We're looking for someone who has:

• Experience as a Business Architect, Senior Business Analyst (or ideally a combination of both) within Federal Government.
• Exposure to whole-of-government services, enterprise transformation or large ICT-enabled change initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of business architecture frameworks including TOGAF, BIZBOK and/or BABOK.
• Experience producing strategic business architecture artefacts and translating organisational strategy into practical business outcomes.
• Excellent business analysis capability, including requirements gathering, process modelling and stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
• Experience using modelling tools to develop architecture and business documentation.
• The ability to influence senior stakeholders while working collaboratively across multidisciplinary architecture teams.
• Previous experience mentoring or leading Business Analysts will be highly regarded.
