Mechanical Design Engineer 4x4 Accessories

About the role

You will be responsible for reverse engineering existing products, developing new designs and working closely with manufacturing partners to bring products to market. You will work across products such as bullbars, canopies, roof racks, trays, tub accessories and other 4x4 vehicle accessories.

Key responsibilities

• Reverse engineer existing 4x4 accessories and vehicle components
• Create accurate 3D CAD models from physical products, measurements, photographs and reference data
• Develop new product concepts and convert them into production-ready designs
• Design components, brackets, frames and assemblies for 4x4 applications
• Produce detailed engineering and manufacturing drawings
• Modify and improve existing products based on testing, feedback and manufacturing requirements
• Ensure designs are practical, structurally sound and suitable for mass production
• Work with manufacturers and engineers in China to develop prototypes and production samples
• Review samples and identify design issues before production
• Conduct fitment checks on vehicles and accessories

About you

• Qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Product Design or a related field
• Strong experience using SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360 or similar 3D CAD software
• Experience creating detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings
• Experience with reverse engineering and product replication
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles
• Understanding of sheet metal design, welding, fabrication and manufacturing processes
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Strong understanding of dimensions, tolerances and material specifications
• Ability to work from physical products and measurements to recreate accurate CAD models
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
