The Opportunity

The Ministerial, Media and Communications Branch (MMC) provides high quality advice, briefings and communications activities that support ASD missions. The branch is responsible for the strategic management of ASD’s public profile, identifying and developing promotional opportunities, and ensuring the quality and consistency of ASD messaging.

The branch’s communications function provides specialist expertise across a range of areas including, campaign and advertising management, campaign and channel evaluation, content development, website management, user experience optimisation, social media, and strategic communications.

MMC are seeking candidates who have an interest in shaping ASD’s public communications approach and thrive in a fast-paced, mission focused environment.

A successful ASD Communications or Media Officer also has a passion for contributing to Australia’s national security and uplifting the cyber security of all Australians. 

Ideal candidates are experienced in building productive working relationships and delivering high quality, timely communication and media products.

Successful candidates will be enthusiastic, results-oriented and engaged people who exercise sound decision-making and judgement, they can work independently, collaboratively, and work well under pressure.

ASD 4, 5 & 6 Communication and Media Officers: 

• Develop and deliver high-quality content across social media, eDM, web and publication channels, translating complex technical information for technical and non-technical audiences. 
• Develop and deliver media products and speeches for senior government officials. 
• Analyse data and research to inform evidence-based communication strategies and activities. 
• Develop, implement and evaluate multi-channel communication strategies, content and advertising campaigns. 
• Coordinate publication requests and oversee content management of ASD's public-facing websites to ensure timely delivery of high-quality materials. 
• Assist with strategic planning and project management to support successful delivery of communication initiatives. 
• Ensure work is completed accurately, efficiently and within agreed timeframes and organisational standards. 
• Build productive relationships, negotiate effectively and influence stakeholders and subject matter experts to achieve business outcomes. 

In addition to the above, the ASD6 Communication and Media Officers also:

• Supervise and mentor staff, manage priorities and provide specialised communication advice and guidance.
• Support procurement and budget management activities.

To be eligible for employment with ASD, you must meet all of the following eligibility criteria:

• Australian Citizenship - Applicants must be an Australian citizen. Only in exceptional circumstances can this requirement be waivered. 
• Organisational Suitability Assessment – The preferred applicant will be required to undergo an Organisational Suitability Assessment (see Organisational Assessment section).
• Security Clearance - It is a condition of employment that applicants are willing and able to obtain and maintain the requisite security clearance for the duration of their employment with ASD.
• Health Assessment - The preferred applicant may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the Agency’s preferred medical provider.

Desirable Qualifications, Experience or Training

• Tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing, advertising or public relations are preferable, but not essential.
• Experience in planning, managing and evaluating external communication programs.
• Experience in communicating technical advice to technical and non-technical audiences.
• High-level organisational and time management skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high attention to detail.
