About the role
Ag Excellence Alliance (Ag Ex) is preparing for its next chapter.
Established in 2005, Ag Ex is South Australia’s peak organisation supporting grower groups through collaboration, project delivery, capacity building and industry engagement.
Ag Ex connects growers with research, innovation, industry, government and education partners, helping strengthen the productivity, profitability, sustainability and resilience of South Australian agriculture. Grower groups are at the heart of this work, providing the relationships, local knowledge and practical leadership that help turn research and new ideas into outcomes on farm.
As part of a planned evolution of its organisational structure, Ag Ex is seeking an experienced and highly organised Finance Officer to support the financial management, reporting, compliance and governance requirements of Ag Ex and its associated projects.
Reporting to the Executive Officer and accountable to the Ag Ex Management Committee, the Finance Officer will work closely with project managers and the Committee to maintain sound financial management practices and support the successful delivery of organisational objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
Maintaining accurate and timely financial records and managing accounts payable and receivable.
Processing and reconciling financial transactions.
Preparing and lodging Business Activity Statements (BAS).
Managing payroll and employee-related financial obligations.
Monitoring cash flow and providing advice on financial performance.
Preparing quarterly financial reports, annual financial statements and supporting documentation.
Coordinating financial information for annual audits and supporting sound financial governance and risk management.
Preparing and presenting the annual financial report at the Annual General Meeting.
Supporting project managers with project budgets, expenditure monitoring, financial reporting and funding acquittals.
Supporting compliance with grant funding agreements and assisting with budgets for funding applications.
Liaising with staff, contractors, Committee members, grower groups, funding bodies and external service providers.
About you
You will have demonstrated experience in financial management, bookkeeping, accounting or a related discipline, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
You will bring experience preparing financial reports, budgets and reconciliations, along with payroll administration and BAS preparation. Proficiency in Xero and competent Microsoft Office skills are essential, together with strong organisational, written and verbal communication skills.
Experience working within a not-for-profit, member-based or community organisation, managing grant-funded projects and financial acquittals, or working with volunteer-led committees and boards will be highly regarded. Knowledge of South Australian agriculture, grower groups and regional industries is also desirable.
The position is part-time, averaging 8–12 hours per week, with potential for review and expansion. It is a flexible, home-based role in South Australia with some intrastate travel.
A competitive salary commensurate with the requirements of the role and the successful candidate’s qualities and experience will be negotiated.
Building on the past. Strengthening for today. Ready for the future.
