Speech Pathologist – AAC and Complex Communication

This role is for a Speech Pathologist who is interested in developing or deepening their skills in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and supporting children with complex communication needs.

Whether you already have AAC experience or are keen to build your confidence in this area, you’ll have access to a structured AAC Competency Framework and support from experienced clinicians to develop your skills step-by-step.

Your caseload can include AAC alongside broader paediatric speech pathology presentations, with opportunities to develop your skills in assessment, implementation, device programming, funding applications and coaching families and communication partners.

Responsibilities

• Assess children with complex communication needs and identify appropriate AAC supports
• Develop and deliver individualised, evidence-based intervention
• Support children, families and communication partners to confidently use AAC in everyday environments
• Assist with AAC trials, implementation, programming and funding applications
• Monitor progress and adapt intervention as children’s communication needs develop
• Collaborate with our multidisciplinary team to provide coordinated care
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records

Requirements

• Degree in Speech Pathology
• Certified Practising Speech Pathologist with Speech Pathology Australia, or eligible for certification
• An interest in AAC and complex communication needs — previous AAC experience is highly regarded but not essential
