Senior Legal Counsel, Health Funds & Public Contracting

As we continue to strengthen our partnerships with health funds and public sector stakeholders, there is an opportunity for an additional legal resource to support the team across its growing portfolio of commercial and strategic matters. As part of our Legal team, you’ll be a trusted advisor to the Payor Relations function, providing pragmatic, commercially focused advice across complex contracting, regulatory and stakeholder matters. Working closely with senior leaders, you’ll help shape key commercial decisions that support Ramsay’s continued growth and the delivery of high-quality healthcare nationwide. This is a highly visible role where you’ll operate at the intersection of strategy, commercial outcomes and risk, partnering with a high-performing team and having the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across the Ramsay network.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll act as a true business partner to the Payor Relations function, providing strategic and commercially focused legal advice as the team continues to expand and strengthen Ramsay’s relationships with health funds and public sector partners. You’ll work across complex and commercially significant matters, helping the business move opportunities forward while ensuring appropriate legal and regulatory risk is understood and managed.

Key accountabilities include:

• Partner closely with the Payor Relations team to provide strategic legal advice across health fund and public sector contracting matters.
• Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of agreements, including complex and business-critical contracts.
• Provide advice across regulatory, commercial, corporate, privacy, competition and dispute matters.
• Build strong, trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across Payor Relations, hospital operations and corporate functions.
• Provide practical legal advice that enables the business to pursue commercial opportunities while managing risk appropriately.
• Support the development and continuous uplift of legal risk management frameworks and strategies.
• Manage external legal counsel, including oversight of performance and cost.
• Contribute to the development of policies, templates and internal precedents.
• Provide legal input into strategic projects and initiatives across the Payor Relations portfolio.
• Mentor and support junior team members where required.

What You’ll Bring

You’re a commercially minded legal professional who understands how to balance risk, commercial outcomes and practical business needs. You’ll be confident working in a complex, highly regulated environment and able to build trusted relationships while providing clear, pragmatic and commercially focused advice.

You will bring:

• Admission as a solicitor in an Australian State or Territory.
• 8+ years’ post-admission experience across corporate and commercial law, gained in top-tier, mid-tier and/or in-house environments.
• Strong experience in commercial contracting, corporate law and regulatory matters.
• An understanding of the healthcare sector, with experience in private health insurance highly regarded.
• The ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, practical and commercially relevant advice.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage and influence senior leaders.
• Excellent negotiation, drafting and problem-solving capability.
• A collaborative and pragmatic approach, with the ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a broader legal and business team.
