We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Disability Support Worker to provide high-quality support to a participant with high physical support needs, including a spinal injury.

This is a hands-on support role requiring someone who is confident and experienced in providing personal care and high-care support, while maintaining the participant's dignity, comfort, safety and independence.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide personal care assistance, including showering, washing, grooming, dressing and general hygiene support.

• Provide high-care support to a participant with a spinal injury.

• Previous experience supporting participants with spinal injuries or complex physical support needs is highly desirable.

• Assist with bowel care, including supporting the participant with their established bowel management routine, where appropriately trained and authorised.

• Assist with continence and catheter-related care as required and within the worker's training and scope of practice.

• Support with repositioning and personal care routines, ensuring the participant is comfortable and safe.

• Follow appropriate infection control and aseptic/clean practices where required.

• Maintain excellent hand hygiene and follow infection prevention and control procedures.

• Follow food hygiene and food safety practices when preparing or assisting with meals.

• Assist with maintaining a clean and hygienic environment, including ensuring floors and commonly used areas are kept clean and safe.

• Assist with dishes, laundry, linen changes and general household tasks as required.

• Support with meal preparation and keeping the participant's preferred food and drinks accessible.

• Provide social support and communication, engaging positively with the participant through conversation and companionship.

• Encourage participation and maintain a respectful, person-centred approach.

• Assist with basic household routines, including caring for two dogs in the home, such as feeding and walking them when required.

• Follow all relevant care plans, workplace procedures, NDIS requirements and health and safety practices.

• Complete accurate shift notes and communicate relevant information during handover.

Essential Requirements
The successful applicant should have:

• Previous experience working as a Disability Support Worker in a high-care environment.

• Demonstrated experience supporting people with spinal injuries or significant physical disabilities.

• Experience with personal care and complex support needs.

• Experience with bowel care is highly desirable.

• Understanding of infection control and hand hygiene.

• Understanding of food hygiene and safe food handling.

• Ability to maintain a clean, safe and hygienic environment.

• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to engage respectfully and comfortably with the participant.

• Ability to work calmly and professionally in a home environment.

• Reliability, patience and a strong commitment to participant dignity and choice.

• Comfortable working in a home with two dogs.

Meet & Greet
A meet and greet with the participant will be arranged before commencement. This will provide an opportunity for the participant and support worker to meet, discuss expectations and determine whether the support arrangement is a good fit.

Important
This role is best suited to a confident and experienced support worker who is comfortable providing personal care and high-level physical support.

Training and competency requirements will be confirmed before the worker undertakes any specialised support tasks.
