Therapeutic Casework Support Practitioner

Details: The Therapeutic Casework Support Team is looking for a casework practitioner to support work of the Therapeutic Support Panel. The Therapeutic Support Panel is an independent, multi-disciplinary body of experts that support children and young people who engage in, or are at risk of, serious or harmful behaviours. The Panel is a core component of the ACT government's nation leading reform to lift the minimum age of criminal responsibility to 14.

The Therapeutic Casework Support Practitioner role is focused on delivering the best possible outcomes for children and young people by delivering best practices in therapeutic casework support for children and young people who are referred to the Panel, as well as their families and communities, including appropriate support for First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse people.

In this role, you will work directly with children, young people and families to encourage voluntary participation in the Therapeutic Support Panel and facilitate meaningful decision-making. You will manage a diverse caseload involving complex and sensitive therapeutic plans, engaging with children, families and support networks to achieve agreed goals. You will support participation in restorative justice processes, family group conferencing, pro-social activities and other therapeutic interventions that strengthen relationships and build resilience.

Success in this position requires the ability to develop strong partnerships across the community services sector to facilitate referrals and access to support services. You will use innovative engagement strategies to encourage participation and foster trust, while working collaboratively with government and non-government agencies within a statutory framework. The role also involves representing HCSD to promote culturally safe, inclusive and respectful practice, particularly for First Nations people and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Science or related discipline is essential.
• CYPP3 must have at least two (2) years of practical experience working with children, young people and/or their families in a social work/case management role.
• Please note: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who do not have these qualifications but who have appropriate and relevant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage and experience are eligible to apply.
• Knowledge and/or experience in working with children and young people who have experiences of DFSV or who have disability or are gender diverse, or are experienced in case work in working with ACCOs and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, are highly desirable.
• Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
