Summary

Support practical workshop learning by assisting our Industrial Technologies program, including woodwork and metalwork. Trinity College, Beenleigh is seeking a School Officer (Classroom Support) with a background in Industrial Technologies or a trade-related field, where hands-on industry experience is highly valued.

About the opportunity

Trinity College, Beenleigh is seeking a School Officer to provide essential classroom support in our Industrial Technologies program, helping students thrive in practical learning, assisting with the fabrication of objects in wood or metal using a variety of hand, power, or machine tools. As the School Officer - Industrial Technologies you will sssist students using trade skills to support safe workshop learning, guide practical tasks, maintain organised spaces and enhance Industrial Technologies lessons.

In this position you will be responsible for:

• Preparing, organising and maintaioing resources, materials, and equipment for practical classes and demonstrations.
• Ensurinmg workshop spaces are clean, organised, and safe at all times, including visible Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs), general housekeeping and storage.
• Ensuring correct and consistent use of PPE by checking that students are wearing required safety equipment (such as goggles, hearing protection, gloves, and aprons), assisting them with proper fitting and adjustment, and reinforcing safe practices during all practical activities.
• Setting up and disassembling practical lessons, ensuring all materials, tools, and machinery are ready for student use and returned safely afterwards.
• Working in collaboration with the Industrial Technologies Teacher to implement and promote best practices for efficient and safe workshop operations.
• Supporting teachers during practical lessons, including demonstrating safe use of tools and equipment under supervision.
• Assessing and monitoring the progress of students and identify learning areas to provide evidence-based intervention strategies for students requiring additional learning scaffolding, including students with learning disabilities
• Assisting in the development of varying teaching methods, materials, and assessments to cater to the diverse learning styles and abilities within the classroom
• Assist students using trade skills to support safe workshop learning, guide practical tasks, maintain organised spaces and enhance Industrial Technologies lessons
• Gathering insights into students' individual needs and develop appropriate strategies to improve student learning outcomes

To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:

• Trade or workshop experience supporting woodwork, metalwork or similar practical learning environments
• Previous practical experience in operating and directing students with industrial equipment
• Experience assessing and monitoring student progress to identify areas for targeted intervention
• Exposure to creating diverse teaching methods and assessments to accommodate various learning styles
• Skilled in developing strategies to enhance student learning outcomes based on individual needs
• Confidence in using tools and machinery safely in a school workshop setting
• Ability to guide studets through hand-on tasks with patience and clear instruction
• Strong organisational skills to maintain a safe, tidy, and well prepared workshop spaces
• Experience in collaborating with specialists to address student needs
• Knowledge about the specific needs for First Nations and international students including cultural considerations
• Certificate III in Education Support
• For this position you are not required to be Catholic.
