At Bendigo Kangan Institute we change lives through the power of education and skills.
Corrections Education Centre is a key portfolio of Bendigo Kangan Institute (BKI), delivering high-quality education programs to people in custody in partnership with Corrections Victoria and private prison operators. Through strong collaboration with multiple custodial sites, we play a vital role in supporting rehabilitation by building skills, confidence and meaningful pathways for reintegration into the community.
Learning delivery is adapted to the custodial context, with paper-based delivery and controlled classroom settings. Our educators work directly with individuals, often navigating diverse learning needs. Success in this environment requires professionals who are confident in demonstrating emotional intelligence and resilience, bring sound judgement and a strong commitment to professional conduct.
About The Role
Location: Ravenhall Correctional Centre
Role Type: Sessional (casual)
Salary: $91.42 - $98.77 per hour (Dependent on qualifications and teaching experience)

Join our close-knit team at Ravenhall Correctional Centre and make a meaningful impact as a Mumgu-dhal Teacher. In this role, you will deliver transformative learning experiences that honour culture, build confidence, and support rehabilitation. Whether you're already teaching or fresh from the field, we provide professional development and teaching support to help you succeed in the classroom!
Preference will be given to candidates who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, or who have strong alliances and experience working closely with Indigenous communities. This is essential to deliver the Mumgu-dhal tyama-tiyt community, connection and pathways courses, which are designed to support learners in strengthening their cultural identity and re-engaging with education.
What We’re Looking For
Due to the nature of the curriculum and the cultural significance of several units, it is highly recommended that applicants have an Indigenous background or deep cultural knowledge. Some units require the teacher to possess Indigenous knowledge and lived experience to ensure authenticity and cultural safety.
Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and contemporary issuesDemonstrated experience working with Koorie communities or in culturally inclusive settings (education settings preferable)Experience delivering training in adult education or vocational settings (preferred but not essential)Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE40110 / TAE40116 / TAE40122)A commitment to safety, inclusion, and learner success
