Our vision is an empowered Australia-Pacific that is resilient to climate change. In pursuit of our vision, Climates works in deep collaboration with its partners and mates across the Australia-Pacific in support of projects which realise local visions of climate resilience.

Position summary

Climates is looking for a volunteer Co-Director to join our executive team as we move into an exciting new phase for the organisation. The role combines responsibilities across operations, governance, partnerships and strategy to achieve Climates’ vision of building climate resilience across the Australia-Pacific region with operational planning and volunteer management. The role would suit someone who is passionate about action on climate change, willing to commit to a volunteer role, and looking to build their leadership and management skills and experience and contribute to meaningful, high-impact work.

Key responsibilities

• Support the delivery of Climates charitable objectives, including to build the capacity of Australian-Pacific communities to be resilient to climate change.
• Ensure Climates remains financially sustainable
• Support the operation of Climates and organisation of Climates volunteers.

Skills and experience

• Understanding of the unique cultural, social, and environmental contexts of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Pacific, or Pacific diaspora communities, and how these intersect with climate change.
• Understanding of climate change challenges and opportunities in the Australia-Pacific, with a particular focus on the community needs in the region.
• Commitment to promoting equity, inclusion, and justice within the climate movement, and prioritising underrepresented voices in decision-making.
• Strong communication skills and an ability to convey ideas and provide guidance.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting.

Desirable

• Experience managing or supporting volunteers
• Experience in not-for-profit strategy, governance, or financial management.
