Responsibilities
Job Description:
As a Director, this individual must display the leadership skills to currently be, or be on track to be, a Principal. We are looking for someone who can work alongside the existing senior Melbourne team to continue to grow and develop Baker Tilly's litigation and expert witness practice in Melbourne, offer deep disputes expertise, maintain strong relationships in the legal market, and generate new business opportunities for Baker Tilly.
The Director is responsible for multiple technically specialised and complex litigation, disputes, valuation, forensic accounting, and expert witness engagements or projects. They effectively execute client service, staff development, practice development, collaborative delivery, working relationships, quality control and other responsibilities specific to the group or function.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
The following is an overview of the primary duties and responsibilities of the Director and should not be considered an all-inclusive list.Gathers information about subject businesses as necessary to complete assigned litigation, disputes, and expert witness engagements, on site where needed.Leads and works with engagement teams in analysing data and preparing calculations, schedules, expert reports, and other client deliverables.Provides valuable financial insight and clarity to clients during all stages of an engagement, from case theory development through to expert witness testimony.Is impeccably prepared and effectively handles meetings and calls with clients, instructing solicitors, counsel, experts, opposing parties, and other stakeholders. Maintains active communication with clients to manage expectations, ensure satisfaction, meet deadlines, and lead change efforts effectively.Effectively delegates and supervises project assignments to the appropriate staff level.Collaborates with senior Melbourne team members, colleagues across other Asia Pacific offices, and the firm as a whole to share expertise, coordinate resources, and deliver high-quality client outcomes.Is involved in recruiting, training, supervising, and retaining professional and support staff. Responsible for staff mentoring and career development.Maintains exceptional attention to detail. Strives for error-free work product and communications.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT: (BD)
Independently and jointly with Principals and colleagues across Asia Pacific and the broader firm, grows the Melbourne litigation and expert witness practice and promotes the broad range of the firm's capabilities.Uses an established network in the legal market to identify, nurture, and convert litigation, arbitration, expert witness, forensic accounting, valuation, and disputes opportunities.Develops and executes clear client development plans in coordination with the existing senior Melbourne team and other Baker Tilly contacts worldwide.Teams with others on proposals, pursuits, and BD calls.Maintains and expands relationships with law firms, counsel, corporates, insurers, litigation funders, and other relevant referral sources.Writes articles for various industry, firm, and other publications.Actively participates in professional organisations, client functions, events, and lunches. Conducts presentations and seminars.Maintains consistent involvement in industry functions and involves staff where appropriate.Takes the initiative to keep current with personnel and employment changes among current and prospective client groups.Strives to remain knowledgeable and current with respect to relevant industry news and trends.
General
Acts with the highest professional ethics and in accordance with the relevant professional standards and practices at all times, including the regulations and professional ethics of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and other governing bodies as applicable.Takes direction from Principals and keeps Principals current on all files.Minimises firm risk on projects and proposals.Contributes to practice administration, team coordination, and firm processes as needed in collaboration with the existing senior Melbourne team.Maximises their own utilisation and that of other Baker Tilly staff by seeking or outsourcing work from or to other Baker Tilly professionals when it is appropriate to do so.Performs other related duties and assignments as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a specialised field required.Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience; previous related industry and consulting experience highly preferred; a minimum of eight (8) years of supervisory responsibilities highly preferred.Possess and maintain valid licence(s) or certification(s) for applicable area of work (CA, ACA/FCA, ACCA/FCCA, or equivalent).Substantial experience in litigation support, forensic accounting, damages, valuation, investigations, or related disputes advisory practice. Highly analytical, with expertise in financial analysis.Demonstrated experience preparing expert reports and supporting or providing expert witness testimony highly preferred.An existing network of relationships in the Melbourne and/or Australian legal market is required, including instructing solicitors, counsel, and other dispute referral sources.An existing book of business or demonstrable portable or referable revenue is a significant plus.Demonstrated management, analytical, organisational, interpersonal, project management, communication skills, and highly developed Microsoft Suite skills (Word, Excel) required.Excellent project management skills with proven success leading projects.Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.Knowledge and experience to oversee the work of others. Readily available to subordinates to answer questions or give instructions.A sense of urgency and a commitment to timely completion of projects.Attention to detail along with a commitment to quality and confidentiality.Flexibility to travel to client meetings as needed and work outside of normal business hours due to client demands.
