Our opportunity

We are looking for a passionate, and experienced Industrial Relations Manager to join our Far West Local Health District People and Culture Team who operate out of Broken Hill, the iconic mining town in far west NSW full of spirit, history, diversity and character.

As part of the FWLHD team, this is an exciting and unique opportunity which combines working alongside the Ministry of Health Workplace Relations in supporting the FWLHD Executive and management teams across all aspects of Industrial Relations.

The role

Reporting to the People & Culture Director, you will be responsible for managing the industrial relations issues, industrial projects and providing high quality industrial and employee relations advice and services to the Far West Local Health District.

You will be a motivated self-starter that has experience and extensive knowledge in contemporary industrial and employee relations frameworks and environments. You will be innovative in your thinking and will be able to apply this in managing the LHD Industrial and Employee Relations challenges.  

Your ability to work with key stakeholders and create strong internal and external relationships will is key to being effective in the role. Understandably the role requires high level communication skills and the ability to navigate challenging scenarios to bring about timely resolution.


 

Selection Criteria

1. Qualifications in Industrial Relations, HR Management, Law or other related qualifications and extensive practical experience in industrial relations matters. Valid unrestricted drivers' licence for use in NSW/Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment.
2. Demonstrated commitment and processes to resolving disputes by negotiation wherever possible with a non-adversarial approach to external stakeholders.
3. Detailed research and analytical skills and the ability to instruct legal representatives and Counsel in complex matters, ability to appear in Courts and Tribunals, in negotiations, major initiatives and in policy matters.
4. Demonstrated experience in providing high quality specific and strategic employment relations advice and services (including negotiations with industrial associations, advocacy experience, award and legislation interpretation and application) and supporting processes in a high volume work area and within agreed timeframes.
5. High level analytical and problem solving skills that lead to the development of innovative solutions to complex workplace issues.
6. Sound understanding of all relevant employment-related legislation, laws and Ministry of Health Policy in the area of workplace relations, complaints, grievances, workplace health and safety and their application in a health context.
7. Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills (including negotiation skills and presentation skills).
8. Sound knowledge of the NSW Industrial Relations system.
