The Opportunity
As the Senior Specialist Investment Operations, you will play a key role in the implementation, operation and governance of La Trobe Financial's investment decision support and trade execution functions. Working closely with Portfolio Managers, Investor Services & Fund Operations, Distribution, Custodians, Fund Administrators, Brokers, External Investment Managers and internal stakeholders, you will ensure investment activities are executed, monitored and reconciled in line with investment mandates, portfolio guidelines and operational controls.
Leveraging your technical expertise, you will provide leadership across investment compliance monitoring, trade operations, portfolio decision support, portfolio data integrity, asset allocation monitoring and middle office controls. You will also support product implementation and operational readiness initiatives, maintain key procedures and documentation, and contribute to the ongoing development, scalability and effectiveness of the Investment Operations function.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee trade capture, confirmation, and settlement processes across asset classes.
Liaise with custodians, brokers, and counter parties to resolve trade discrepancies.
Ensure timely and accurate trade booking and reconciliation.
Maintain accurate position and transaction data across internal systems.
Monitor corporate actions, pricing feeds, and benchmark data.
Coordinate with IT and data vendors to resolve data quality issues.
Collaborate with performance teams to validate portfolio returns and attribution.
Support investment teams with customised reporting and analytics.
Monitor investment guideline breaches and escalate as necessary.
Assist in the implementation of investment risk controls and compliance checks.
Support regulatory reporting and audit processes.
Identify and implement process enhancements to improve operational efficiency.
Lead or contribute to system upgrades, automation initiatives, and cross-functional projects.
Motivate, coach and mentor members of the investment team.
About You
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics, or related field.
5+ years of experience in middle office or investment operations within asset management.
Strong understanding of financial instruments (equities – domestic and global, fixed income, derivatives).
Experience with portfolio management systems (e.g. IRESS, Bloomberg AIM, Charles River, Aladdin).
Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
A strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
Ability to problem-solve with a proactive approach.
Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
