About the role
DIDO | 7/7
KFI is looking for trade-qualified Diesel Fitters who are eager to expand their skills and be trained as Drillers. If you have a background in heavy mechanical fitting and want a dual role where you maintain fleet uptime while learning to operate surface and underground drill rigs, read on.
The Role
You will combine your trade expertise with hands-on drill operations—keeping the fleet turning through active maintenance while training across our extensive rig fleet. Flexible options available with immediate starts.
Drill Operations & Traineeship:
Operate drill rigs in a safe, productive, and efficient manner.
Conduct daily checks on all equipment prior to use.
Accurately check the quality and depth of drill holes and record ground conditions.
Demonstrate a positive attitude towards achieving regular and reliable drill metres.
Be willing to be trained across a variety of drill rigs in our extensive fleet and show an adaptable attitude.
Maintenance & Fitting:
Maintenance, servicing, and breakdown repairs on surface drill rigs.
Diagnose and fault-find across mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic control systems.
Perform preventative and planned maintenance, component changes, and scheduled overhauls.
Maintain a clean and tidy drill rig and report any maintenance issues promptly.
Safety & Administration:
Undertake all tasks with a strong focus on maintaining safety, regularly using safety tools such as JSAs and Take 5s.
Read service documentation and diagnostic data.
Provide neat, complete, and accurate documentation for drill reports, pre-starts, and job logs.
Contribute positively to a strong site safety culture.
What You Need (Must Have)
Trade qualification as a Diesel Fitter or Heavy Diesel Mechanic (or other relevant qualifications).
Strong commitment to safety and compliance.
Hands-on drill-rig maintenance experience (surface and/or underground rigs) or heavy mining industry experience.
Sound diagnostic ability across mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic control systems.
Standard 11 Statement of Attainment.
Australian Driver Licence (Heavy Rigid / HR licence is highly advantageous).
National Police Clearance (within 6 months) or willingness to obtain.
Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Health Assessment / Medical.
Available for DIDO or local site placement.
