The WA Intensive Care Training Pathway (WAICTP) offers a unique opportunity to continue to shape the development of a WA Country Health Service (WACHS)-based statewide networked training pathway that supports intensive care medicine trainees to complete access required training rotations across public, private and not-for profit health services in Western Australia (WA). 

This is more than an education role. It is an opportunity to build, innovate and influence, working across these sectors to create new training opportunities, strengthen educational networks and support the development of the next generation of Intensive Care specialist.

As Clinical Educator, you will play a pivotal role in continuing to shape the strategic direction of education, promoting and overseeing the education, mentoring and training components of WAICTP. You will have the opportunity to work across organisation and geographical boundaries, build strategic partnerships, develop innovative education models and contribute to the expansion of training opportunities across WA.

For the ambitious Intensive Care Specialist with a passion for medical education, workforce development and innovation this role will provide the opportunity to:

• Identify and develop new training opportunities, including supporting the expansion of CICM-accredited positions and rotations.
• Design connected and immersive training experiences that expose trainees to the breadth of intensive care practice across Western Australia.
• Drive education innovation, incorporating contemporary adult learning, simulation, technology and emerging approaches to medical education.
• Support research and scholarship in medical education and Intensive Care Medicine, with opportunities to develop and contribute to projects that strengthen the evidence base for specialist training.
• Mentor and develop future Intensive Care specialists, contributing to a culture of excellence, curiosity, collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Influence workforce development at a statewide level, helping to build a sustainable Intensive Care workforce for metropolitan, regional and rural WA.

About the Medical Education Unit

The role is positioned within the WACHS Medical Education Unit (MEU), a team focused on strengthening medical education, training and workforce development across rural and remote Western Australia. The unit is dedicated to creating rewarding and sustainable careers in regional healthcare.

About the Role

As the Director Clinical Training, you will provide leadership to the education, mentorship and training components of the WAICTP.  

Working closely with WACHS leadership, the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM), metropolitan health services, regional training sites, and key stakeholders, you will drive the continues development of a transformative state-wide training initiative.

This role will suite a senior Intensive Care Specialist who is curious, ambitious and development-focused and who is motivated by the opportunity to lead change, solve complex problems, develop innovative approaches and create new opportunities for others.

You will bring:

• Unrestricted specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia in Intensive Care Medicine.
• Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) of Australia and New Zealand.
• Strong knowledge of CICM training requirements and accreditation standards.
• Current or recent Intensive Care Medicine clinical experience.
• A demonstrated commitment to medical education and trainee development and wellbeing.
• Experience applying contemporary adult learning principles, including curriculum development, assessment and remediation.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
• A demonstrated interest in innovation, research, education or workforce development.
• The ability to work strategically across organisation boundaries and translate ideas into practical outcomes.
