About Mount Isa Water Board

Mount Isa Water Board (MIWB) is a Queensland water authority responsible for supporting the reliable delivery of essential water services to the Mount Isa community.

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Accountant, the Finance Officer provides accurate and timely support across accounts payable, accounts receivable, customer invoicing, receipt allocation, reconciliations, month-end activities and general finance administration.

You will work closely with suppliers, customers and internal stakeholders, maintain accurate and audit-ready financial records, and contribute to the continued improvement of MIWB’s finance processes and systems, including the transition to TechnologyOne.

What you will do

• Process supplier invoices, credit notes and payment runs, ensuring coding, GST treatment, approvals and supporting documentation are complete.

• Prepare customer invoices, credit notes and statements and maintain accurate customer records.

• Allocate receipts, follow up overdue accounts and resolve routine supplier and customer enquiries.

• Assist with bank, supplier, customer and corporate credit card reconciliations and assigned month-end schedules.

• Maintain accurate and complete finance records and supporting documentation.

• Assist with audit requests, finance system testing, procedure updates and process improvements.

About you

You will ideally have:

• Experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, finance administration or a similar transactional finance role.

• Practical experience processing invoices, payments, customer billing and receipts.

• A sound understanding of GST, basic accounting principles and financial controls.

• Confidence using accounting or ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.

• Strong attention to detail, organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

• Clear communication skills, a professional approach to customer service and the ability to investigate routine discrepancies and escalate matters where appropriate.

Qualifications in accounting, bookkeeping or business administration, experience within government, utilities or infrastructure, and exposure to TechnologyOne or another ERP system will be highly regarded.

Conditions and how to apply

This position is based in Mount Isa, Queensland. The successful candidate must be able to work from Mount Isa from commencement.
