About the roleReporting to the Capital Works Manager, the Project Engineer (12 Months Fixed Term) will support the development and execution of strategic capital improvement initiatives across the manufacturing site, with a primary focus on the Bar Line manufacturing area.The role will play a key part in the staged master planning, process optimisation, and technical development of the site’s manufacturing capability. This includes identifying operational constraints, developing engineering concepts, coordinating technical investigations, engaging equipment suppliers and contractors, and supporting the preparation of capital business cases and project execution plans.The successful candidate will work closely with Operations, Maintenance & Reliability, Quality, Safety, and New Product Development teams to develop practical, scalable solutions. KPIs to be achieved through this work include improving throughput, reliability, changeover performance, product capability, safety, waste reduction, and operational efficiency, while supporting the site’s progression toward industry best practice manufacturing performance and OEE standards.While the initial focus of the role will be the Bar Line manufacturing area, the position may also support other strategic capital and manufacturing improvement projects across the GFP site as required.This role requires a hands-on engineer with strong project management capability, practical process engineering experience, and the ability to operate effectively within a complex brownfield FMCG manufacturing environment.
Success ProfileExperienceDemonstrated experience delivering capital projects within FMCG or food manufacturing environments.Experience in brownfield manufacturing environments with complex process and operational constraints.Experience developing project scopes, process concepts, equipment specifications, and staged capital plans.Previous experience managing contractors, equipment suppliers, and installation activities.Experience in snack food, confectionery, bakery, cereal, extrusion, or related food manufacturing highly regarded.Exposure to high-viscosity food systems, thermal processing, mixing, forming, coating, or packaging systems advantageous.
QualificationsDegree qualified in Mechanical, Chemical, Process, Manufacturing, or related Engineering discipline.Strong competency in Microsoft Office products.Experience using project management and/or CAD software advantageous.
CapabilitiesStrong practical process engineering and problem-solving capability.Ability to independently manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on technical execution.Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills across all organisational levels.Commercial awareness, including understanding of capital budgeting, project costing, and business case development.Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to develop practical and sustainable engineering solutions.Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of operating effectively in ambiguous or evolving project environments.Strong safety leadership and commitment to food safety and quality standards.
