Girls on Fire is looking for a Company Secretary 

Girls on Fire is a national not-for-profit building leadership, confidence and resilience in young women through hands-on experiences with fire, rescue and emergency services. As we grow, we're strengthening our governance foundations — and we're after a company secretary to help us do it well. It's a voluntary role (expenses covered), and a great fit for a governance, legal or company secretariat professional who wants board-level not-for-profit experience and work that genuinely matters.

At Girls on Fire, the Company Secretary plays a critical role in strengthening governance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting effective board and committee operations across the organisation.

This role is central to enabling strong decision-making frameworks, maintaining high standards of corporate governance, and ensuring the organisation operates with integrity, transparency, and accountability. This is a voluntary role, however expenses will be covered.

Key Responsibilities

• Support governance activities across the organisation, including board and committee processes
• Coordinate board and committee meetings, including preparation of agendas, papers, minutes, and resolutions 
• Manage regulatory lodgements and statutory filings in line with applicable requirements 
• Maintain accurate company records, registers, and governance documentation systems 
• Assist with external reporting obligations and any relevant regulatory or stakeholder disclosures 
• Support statutory reporting cycles, governance reviews, and compliance frameworks 
• Contribute to continuous improvement of secretariat processes, controls, and governance systems 
• Engage with senior leaders and stakeholders across the organisation, including Legal, Finance, Risk, and Operations
• Ensure appropriate handling of confidential and sensitive information at all times

About The Organisation

Girls on Fire Australia is a youth-focused, multi-agency program building leadership, confidence and community resilience through hands-on engagement with emergency and community services. Girls on Fire Australia was established to address the lack of visible and accessible pathways for girls and under-represented young people into emergency services, disaster preparedness and community resilience roles.

What began as a pilot initiative has grown into a nationally recognised program working alongside fire, rescue, land management, marine, ambulance and community agencies. Through safe, structured and real-world learning experiences, participants develop leadership, teamwork and practical skills while gaining exposure to meaningful career and volunteer pathways.

Operating as a social enterprise and not-for-profit hybrid, Girls on Fire partners with government, industry and community organisations to deliver scalable, evidence-based programs that strengthen individual capability and long-term community resilience.

What You Will Bring

• Experience in a company secretariat, governance, or corporate administration role
• Strong understanding of corporate governance principles and regulatory compliance obligations
• Knowledge of board and committee processes, including preparation of papers, agendas, and minutes
• High attention to detail with strong organisational and time management skills
• Confidence working with senior stakeholders and managing sensitive matters professionally
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience using governance systems (e.g., board portals or entity management platforms) is highly regarded
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
