Cochlear Implant Clinical Lead!

As the Clinical Lead for SA's Adult Public Cochlear Implant Program, you'll oversee a specialised end-to-end service — from candidacy through to long-term rehabilitation — that gives South Australian adults access to life-changing hearing technology through the public system. Based at Flinders Medical Centre within SALHN, this part-time ongoing role blends program leadership with hands-on clinical work, including general audiology and outreach clinics across the metropolitan Adelaide region.

About the role: 

Reporting to the Audiology Manager, this role is responsible for the coordination of the South Australian Adult Public Cochlear Implant (CI) Program and the provision of audiological services resulting from referrals within and external to Flinders Medical Centre.

Duties for the role will include:

• Must be able to provide high-quality care across multiple areas within Acute Audiology services which will include (but not limited to): Adult CI, ENT, Ototoxicity and General Paediatric and Adult Audiology. Assume primary responsibility for the organisation and leadership of the South Australian Adult Public CI Program, including management of the patient waiting list, prioritisation of candidates, and oversight of policy and procedure development within the program,

• Provide specialist knowledge and expertise in the assessment, counselling, candidacy evaluation, fitting, and rehabilitation of CI candidates, implantees and their significant others,

• Lead staff supervision, CI service planning, development and evaluation, and driving continuous quality improvement and adoption of new techniques where evidence supports their use,

• Maintain comprehensive professional reports in the FMC medical record and interpret and disseminate audiology results for CI and non-CI patients,
• While the role is predominantly focussed on running the program, provision of general audiological services will also be required,
• Some travel to offsite clinics will be required

About you:

• Post or Undergraduate Graduate Qualification in Audiology or an appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which gives eligibility for Association membership with Audiology Australia,

  Obtain a minimum of 20 hours of relevant professional development/education every 12 months,

• Demonstrated ability to provide high level clinical advice regarding clinical service delivery and improvement opportunities,

  Demonstrated ability to practice contemporary leadership and management strategies to build and develop a well-functioning team,

  Demonstrated work within the field of cochlear implantation,

  Demonstrated flexibility, adaptability, problem-solving, resourcefulness and innovation in a changing workplace,

• Experience providing pre- and post-implant rehabilitation, mapping, and long-term clinical follow-up for cochlear implant recipients,
• Broad & varied experience in a full range of audiological clinical procedures at a senior level, including the management of patients affected by hearing and communication disorders
