About the role
Work Health & Safety (WHS) Officer
Mamu Health Service Limited (MHSL) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation committed to providing holistic, culturally safe, and community-driven services that strengthen the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We are seeking a motivated and organised individual to join our team as a Work Health & Safety (WHS) Officer. This is an entry-level opportunity suited to someone looking to begin or develop a career in workplace health and safety, with full training and support provided.
About the Role
The WHS Officer provides day-to-day administrative support to help maintain a safe, healthy, culturally respectful and compliant workplace across MHSL. Working under the general direction of the Quality, Compliance and Work Health & Safety Coordinator, this role supports WHS records management, inspection support, training coordination, incident and hazard follow-up, and routine reporting across MHSL sites. Comprehensive training and ongoing support will be provided to the successful applicant.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain accurate WHS records, registers and evidence in approved organisational systems.
Support the recording and follow-up of hazards, incidents, near misses, inspections and corrective actions.
Assist managers and staff to complete required WHS documentation accurately and promptly.
Support workplace inspections, site safety checks and WHS audits across MHSL locations.
Assist with WHS induction records, training bookings and attendance follow-up.
Help prepare routine WHS communications, meeting notes and reports for review and approval.
Selection Criteria
Cultural capability and respectful practice
Demonstrated ability to communicate and work respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and contribute to a culturally safe workplace and service environment.
WHS administration and records
Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate WHS records, registers, spreadsheets, training records, inspection records, incident documentation and corrective action follow-up.
Work under general direction
Ability to work independently on allocated tasks under general direction, apply established procedures, use judgement in routine administrative matters and escalate complex or high-risk issues appropriately.
Communication and consultation support
Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear WHS communications, meeting notes, reminders and routine reports.
Technology and systems
Competency in Microsoft Office applications and ability to use or quickly learn WHS, quality, compliance and records management systems.
Values, confidentiality and safety
Demonstrated commitment to MHSL values, confidentiality, child safety, cultural safety, equity, inclusion, workplace safety and professional conduct.
Prior experience in WHS is not required; however, a willingness to learn and a strong work ethic are essential.
What We Offer
Structured on-the-job training and mentoring to build your WHS administration skills.
Access to ongoing professional development opportunities relevant to your role.
A supportive and culturally safe working environment.
Competitive salary under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners and Aboriginal Community Controlled Services Award (MA000115).
