The Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated, calm, and compassionate Male Disability Support Worker to join our team. We are specifically looking for an individual with a strong background in supporting clients with high behaviours and mental health challenges. Shift Details
Location: Merrylands West, NSW Mondays: 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM (Non-Daylight Saving Time) / 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM (Daylight Saving Time) Tuesdays: 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM Note: These are recurring weekly supports. Days and times ARE NOT FLEXIBLE!
About The Participant
You will be supporting a friendly and engaging 15-year-old young man diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Severe Intellectual Disability, and Developmental Delay. He communicates primarily using single words, gestures, echolalia, and visual supports. He enjoys drawing Hyundai vehicles and logos and thrives with calm, predictable, and structured supports. He experiences anxiety and requires close supervision during community access due to impulsivity and safety risks, including elopement and limited road safety awareness.
Responsibilities Of The Role
Facilitate community access and recreational outings while proactively managing safety risks in the community.Implement Lewis's Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) and apply Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies.Utilise visual communication techniques and support emotional regulation.Encourage independence and the development of daily life skills.Build a strong, positive relationship using a person-centred and trauma-informed lens.Respectfully assist with personal care, domestic duties, or other daily tasks to ensure dignity and independence.Maintain accurate shift notes and confidently complete Incident Reports when required.
What We Are Looking For
Experienced Male Support Workers who are highly confident in implementing Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs).Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support and an understanding of restrictive practices.Comfort and expertise in supporting participants with Autism, ADHD, Intellectual Disability, and behaviours of concern.Demonstrated skills in de-escalation techniques and proactive behavioural support.A calm, patient, reliable, and emotionally mature demeanor.Confidence in identifying, documenting, and reporting incidents appropriately.Commitment to delivering person-centred, safe, and consistent supports.
