About the role
Early Career to Experienced | Community and Clinic Based | Adelaide
Prospect, Mawson Lakes and Morphettville
Full-time or part-time (0.6–1.0 FTE)
You’ve started building your foundations as an Occupational Therapist. Now you might be thinking more carefully about the kind of clinician you want to become.
You may be less than a year into practice and looking for the right environment to keep building your confidence and clinical reasoning.
You may have several years of experience and want more autonomy, greater clinical depth or the opportunity to develop a particular area of practice.
Or you may be starting to think about Senior OT responsibilities, supervision, service development or clinical leadership.
At Meaningful Activities, we’re looking for Occupational Therapists who are curious about their practice, willing to reflect and motivated to keep developing.
We want to understand where you are now, where you’d like your practice to go, and how we can help you build towards it.
Meaningful Activities is an Adelaide based Occupational Therapy practice supporting children, young people, adults and older adults to participate in the activities, roles and routines that matter to them.
Our roots are in community based, neuroaffirming Occupational Therapy. Our practice is also broadening and deepening.
Our current clinical and service areas include:
Neurodivergent children, adolescents and adults
Intellectual and psychosocial disability
Neurological conditions and acquired brain injury
Early childhood and Preschool Boost
Functional Capacity Assessments and functional assessment
Assistive technology and home modifications
Support at Home and Occupational Therapy for older adults
Capacity building with families, carers, educators, support workers and community organisations
As these areas continue to develop, our OTs have increasing opportunities to build depth in particular populations and areas of practice.
Meaningful Activities works across the lifespan as a practice.
That doesn’t mean every OT needs to.
We want to understand what you already know, the work you enjoy, and where you’d like to develop greater capability.
Your caseload may focus on one area or combine several, including:
Work with neurodivergent children and families through ongoing therapy, parent coaching, school and preschool consultation, capacity building and Preschool Boost.
Support executive functioning, self regulation, independent living, community participation and transition into adult roles.
Work with neurodivergent adults and people with intellectual or psychosocial disability through functional assessment, life skills, capacity building and community participation.
Develop deeper expertise with people living with acquired brain injury and other neurological conditions, including functional assessment, daily living skills, equipment, environmental adaptation and participation focused intervention.
Build capability in equipment prescription, environmental assessment, minor home modifications and increasingly complex assistive technology work.
Support older adults to maintain independence, safety and participation at home through functional assessment, ADL intervention, equipment, environmental modification and capacity building.
You can start with a mixed caseload while exploring where you’d like to develop greater depth.
Your level of autonomy and responsibility will reflect your experience and capability.
If you’re earlier in your career, you’ll receive greater structure and supervision while you build confidence and independence.
As your capability develops, you’ll progressively take on greater clinical responsibility, complexity and decision making.
Depending on your experience and caseload, your role may include:
Conducting Occupational Therapy and functional assessments
Providing goal directed intervention in homes, schools, preschools, workplaces, clinics and community environments
Completing Functional Capacity Assessments and comprehensive reports
Developing practical, evidence informed and neuroaffirming recommendations
Supporting people to build skills and participate more independently in everyday life
Assessing for assistive technology and environmental modifications
Working collaboratively with families, carers, educators, support coordinators, support workers and other professionals
Coaching the people around a client so strategies can be embedded into everyday life
Working with Allied Health Assistants and mentors to extend therapy beyond the OT session
Contributing to group programs, resources and service development
Participating in reflective practice, clinical discussion and professional development
Contributing to service improvement and clinical governance as your capability develops
Years of experience matter, but they don’t tell us everything about a clinician.
You may have around eight months of experience and already be developing strong foundations in community practice.
You may have several years of experience and be ready for your next challenge.
We’re interested in how you think about your work.
We value OTs who can ask:
What is the occupational problem we are trying to solve?
Why am I recommending this?
How does this connect with what matters to this person?
What am I confident doing independently, and when do I need another perspective?
We’re looking for someone who:
Is developing sound clinical reasoning and professional judgement
Takes increasing responsibility for their caseload, communication and documentation
Builds strong therapeutic relationships
Thinks beyond diagnosis and considers the person, their occupations and their environment
Is comfortable asking for support when something falls outside their current capability
Can receive feedback and reflect on their own practice
Is proactive when something could be improved
Can adapt when community practice doesn’t go according to plan
Enjoys learning alongside other clinicians
Wants to continue becoming a stronger Occupational Therapist
Our values are Courage, Proactivity, Adaptability and Collaboration, and these influence how we work with clients and with each other.
We don’t want professional development to simply mean attending a course once a year.
We want each clinician to have a clearer sense of:
Where am I now?
Where do I want my practice to go?
What capability do I need to build next?
Your professional and career development will be tailored around your current capability, clinical interests and longer term goals.
Earlier career OTs may focus on developing:
Clinical reasoning
Assessment and intervention planning
Caseload management
Documentation and report writing
Stakeholder communication
Functional Capacity Assessments
Community based practice
Increasing clinical independence
As your experience develops, your pathway might include:
Greater independence with complex clinical work
Expertise within a particular clinical population
Advanced assessment
Functional Capacity Assessment
Assistive technology and home modification practice
Senior Occupational Therapist responsibilities
Clinical supervision and mentoring
Student supervision and clinical education
Service development
Quality improvement
Clinical governance
Advanced clinical practice
Future Clinical Lead opportunities
Progression doesn’t automatically mean becoming a manager.
Some clinicians want to become excellent clinicians with deep expertise. Others enjoy supervision, education, service design or clinical governance.
We want to build pathways that recognise those different directions.
Meaningful Activities is deliberately strengthening its clinical governance as the practice develops.
We’re building clearer systems around clinical capability, supervision, documentation, reflective practice, decision making, quality and risk.
As your capability develops, there may be opportunities to contribute to:
Clinical resources and practice frameworks
Reflective case discussions
Quality improvement projects
Documentation and assessment standards
Peer learning and knowledge translation
Supervision and capability development
Clinical policies and governance
Development of new clinical service streams
You don’t need a formal leadership title to contribute to good clinical practice.
We want clinicians to become increasingly confident and independent.
We don’t believe independence should mean working alone.
Our clinicians have access to:
Regular individual supervision
Group supervision
Structured professional development
Service meetings
Informal case consultation
Peer learning and collaboration
External professional development
Opportunities to supervise, teach and learn from others
Prospect is our main team base, with additional clinic spaces in Mawson Lakes and Morphettville.
Our clinicians work flexibly from home, in the community and from our locations, while regular face to face structures help keep the team connected.
We’ll work with you to shape your caseload as your interests, strengths and capability become clearer.
Our work spans disability, early childhood, neurological conditions, assistive technology, home modifications and Support at Home.
We want your reasoning, judgement and capability to grow as your experience grows.
Clinical expertise, supervision, governance, education, service development and leadership can all form part of career progression.
Preschool Boost, neurological practice, Support at Home and assistive technology are all areas continuing to develop within Meaningful Activities.
Much of our therapy happens in everyday environments including homes, schools, preschools, workplaces and the community. Clinic based therapy is available where it makes sense.
Our OTs collaborate with Allied Health Assistants, mentors, students, families and support teams to build capacity around the person.
Competitive salary aligned with your experience, capability and responsibilities
Part time and full time opportunities
Flexible working arrangements
Tailored caseload development
Individual clinical supervision

You don’t need to have worked with every population we support.
You also don’t need to know exactly what you want your OT career to look like five years from now.
We’re interested in what you’ve learnt so far, what kind of work you enjoy, and what you’d like to become better at next.
Whether you’re around eight months into your career and ready to keep building your foundations, or you’re an experienced clinician looking for greater depth, autonomy or professional direction, we’d love to hear from you.
Tell us a little about the Occupational Therapist you are now and the clinician you’d like to become.
Let’s see whether Meaningful Activities could be the place to build it.
