About us

Men’s Outreach Service Aboriginal Corporation (MOSAC) was established in 2001 and delivers a range of programs including Indigenous men’s behaviour change, men’s health and wellbeing programs, drop-in services, a women and children’s healing space, and youth life-promotion and suicide-prevention programs.

About the role

MOSAC is seeking two Youth Engagement Mentors to support the delivery of Change Em Ways – Young Fellas, a culturally informed early-intervention program for Aboriginal young men aged 12–24.

Working through outreach, sport, recreation, community engagement and On Country activities, you will build trusted relationships with young men and encourage participation, cultural connection, respectful relationships, accountability, emotional regulation and positive decision-making.

You will work closely with the Change Em Ways Broome Team Coordinator and program team, under the direction of the Team Leader. The safety of women, children, participants and the community is central to the role.

The positions are:

• Full-time

• Based in Broome, with outreach and On Country activities within the service region

• Maximum-term until 30 June 2027

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Build respectful, culturally safe and consistent relationships with Aboriginal young men aged 12–24

• Provide practical support, encouragement and positive role modelling

• Use sport, fitness, recreation and On Country activities to support engagement, wellbeing and cultural connection

• Reinforce healthy and respectful relationships, consent and boundaries, accountability, emotional regulation and non-violent conflict resolution

• Encourage attendance, continued participation and connection with appropriate support services

• Assist with approved intake, eligibility and risk-screening activities under supervision

• Recognise, record and promptly refer safety, safeguarding or risk concerns

• Support warm referrals to relevant health, youth, education, employment, housing and community services

• Assist with planning and safely delivering outreach, community and On Country activities

• Transport participants in authorised MOSAC vehicles when required

• Maintain accurate and confidential program, attendance, engagement and referral records

• Participate in supervision, debriefing, reflective practice, team meetings and required training

• Build respectful relationships with Elders, community members, schools, Aboriginal community-controlled organisations and other service partners

About you

You will ideally bring:

• Demonstrated experience engaging Aboriginal boys and young men in a culturally safe and respectful manner

• The ability to build trust, provide positive role modelling and maintain appropriate professional boundaries

• Experience using outreach, sport, recreation, culture or On Country activities to engage young people

• A practical understanding of healthy relationships, family and domestic violence, child safety and the importance of the safety of women and children

• The ability to identify concerns and make appropriate referrals through established pathways

• The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, Elders, community members and service providers

• Sound verbal, written and basic digital skills, including accurate and confidential recordkeeping

• Relevant experience in youth services, Aboriginal community services, community development or a related setting

A relevant qualification is desirable; however, demonstrated experience and capability may be accepted in its place.

Knowledge of Broome and West Kimberley communities, cultural protocols and local referral pathways will be highly regarded.

Other requirements

The successful applicants must have, or be able to obtain before commencement:

• A current Western Australian Working with Children Check

• A satisfactory National Police Clearance

• A current Western Australian unrestricted C Class driver’s licence

• A current First Aid certificate

• The capacity to safely undertake outreach, participant transport, sport, recreation and On Country activities

• A willingness to complete required training, including child safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, FDV awareness, risk recognition and escalation, privacy and information sharing

A 4WD certificate, or willingness to undertake 4WD training, is desirable.
