Senior Cyber Security Engineer

About the role

You'll be responsible for maintaining and strengthening WIMR's cybersecurity resilience across on-premise and cloud environments. You'll lead the deployment, configuration and ongoing management of Microsoft security technologies, while proactively monitoring, detecting, investigating and responding to cyber threats.

Working closely with the CIO, Systems Administrator, Endpoint Engineer, Network Engineer and external technology partners, you'll help build a stronger and more proactive cybersecurity capability across the Institute.

Key responsibilities

• Strengthening WIMR's cybersecurity posture using Microsoft security technologies.

• Identifying and improving gaps across Microsoft XDR and its security products.

• Leading the greenfield deployment of Microsoft Sentinel, including data connectors, normalisation, analytics rules, UEBA, watchlists and workbooks.

• Developing cost-effective ingestion strategies for Microsoft Sentinel.

• Performing vulnerability assessments across endpoints and implementing required improvements.

• Proactively detecting, investigating and responding to cyber threats.

• Conducting KQL-led threat hunting and aligning detections with MITRE ATT&CK and real-world threats.

• Developing and implementing SOAR playbooks and security automation using Logic Apps and Power Automate.

• Implementing practical technical solutions that improve WIMR's overall security posture.

• Leading the Internal Cyber Governance Committee and preparing reports for executive leadership.

About you

• Demonstrated experience deploying and managing Microsoft Sentinel – essential.

• Demonstrated experience deploying and managing Microsoft XDR – essential.

• Strong experience in proactive threat hunting and remediation – essential.

• Experience deploying and managing Microsoft Purview – preferred.

• A degree in Cyber Security or a related field, or significant relevant experience of 5+ years.

• SC-200 and/or SC-100 certification – preferred.

• Experience with Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Endpoint Manager – preferred.

• A strong understanding of MITRE ATT&CK, NIST, Zero Trust and the ACSC Essential Eight.

• Knowledge of network technologies, firewalls and hypervisors – preferred.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work confidently with technical teams, leadership and external partners.
