The organization relies on the support of volunteers to help maintain high standards of animal welfare and daily operations. Volunteers have the opportunity to learn about rabbit care, contribute to the wellbeing of animals, and be part of a compassionate, values-driven team.
Role Description The Community Volunteer role is an on-site volunteer position based at The Rabbit Sanctuary Australia in Grafton, NSW. Day-to-day tasks may include cleaning enclosures, feeding and watering rabbits, assisting with basic grooming, and monitoring animal behavior and wellbeing.
Volunteers support staff with general sanctuary upkeep, such as maintaining common areas, helping with supplies, and preparing spaces for new arrivals. Depending on interest and experience, volunteers may also assist with community outreach, educational activities, and adoption events. This role requires a regular commitment and a willingness to follow sanctuary guidelines and animal care procedures. Animals in need of care at the sanctuary: rabbits, horses, dogs, goats.QualificationsAbility to perform practical animal care tasks, including safe handling of rabbits, cleaning enclosures, and following hygiene and safety procedures.Strong reliability and time-management skills, with the ability to follow instructions and work within established routines.Good interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with staff, other volunteers, and visitors in a respectful and inclusive manner.Capacity to perform light physical work, such as lifting supplies, bending down to change litter trays etc., standing for extended periods, and working in outdoor or barn environments.Demonstrated compassion for animals and interest in animal welfare; prior experience with companion animals or rescue work is beneficial but not required.Willingness to learn sanctuary protocols, including basic rabbit health indicators, emergency procedures, and biosecurity practices.Ability to commit to a regular volunteer schedule; current tetanus vaccination and comfort around common farm or shelter environments are advantageous.
