Banana Farm Worker Required: Employed Full-time under the Horticultural Award 2020 (MA000028)

• Level 1 position with ability to progress based on experience level

Field based position undertaking a range of banana growing activities. This is a physical role which will require the staff member to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Activities include but are not limited to:

• Harvesting
• De-leafing
• De-suckering
• Stringing
• Fixing Irrigation
• Weeding

Essential Criteria:

• Physically Fit
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Available to work 38 hours a week (with additional work hours optional)
• Monday
• Friday with weekend work available
• Ability to work unsupervised
• Good English – ability to understand simple instructions
• Flexibility to work in all weather conditions, such as daytime temperatures of over 35 degrees and long periods of constant rain
• Prepared to start as soon as possible.

Desirable Criteria:

• Drivers License
• Experience in farm/construction labouring work
• Experience in driving farm machinery

There is potential to upskill and additional training may be provided. Your Duties will include but are not limited to:

• Meeting with farm manager to receive banana blocks to undertake bagging.
• Collecting and preparing equipment and supplies for the days use.
• Completing any prestart machinery checklists.
• Operating farm equipment and machinery to complete tasks.
• Bell injecting banana bell before bell flowers emerge.
• Pruning bunch to the correct number of hands.
• Selecting appropriate coloured bags and sizes for use.
• Bagging banana bunch and ensuring secured correctly and covering bunch.
• Cleaning, sterilising and maintaining equipment.
• Servicing bagging machine and performing minor repairs.
• Reporting completed tasks to the farm manager.
• Additional duties may be required from time to time as requested.
